I just bought a velocity T4 to run a closed loop on my 90Gallon, I am a litttle concerned about the intake and how to protect my fish from becoming impeller mush. Im going to use a 1 inch pvc pipe and get an adaptor for a 2 inch screen. Would running the 1 inch PVC with holes drilled and a cap on the end be more effective?

Has anyone else bought the same pump? how does it perform?

The bulkhead screen will be more organized than a pipe with holes on it. But if you can do a good job in drilling the holes, then there should not be any issue with flow as long as you drill sufficient number of hole with sufficient size.

However, it is easier to visualize the flow pattern if the intake is more localized with the screen, than with a pipe (more diffuse), but that is a very minor issue.

Is this goin to be an over the back or drilled closed loop. For a drilled I would use a screen. I have an over the back with a drilled pipe for the suction. I used 1/4 holes. I think I have about 50. What I did was figure the size holes I wanted to use then figured how many it would take to get the same area as the pipe the I added some more. The more holes the better. It has been working well far about a year.

I can not comment on the pump I have never used one. I have a mag18 on mine.
