I am planning on purchasing a RO filter soon and I need some advice on which one I should get? I am looking at the Kent 3stage Hi-s 35gpd model, and the Seachem/Pinnacle 3stage 35gpd model also. And possibly the Captive Purity 3stage pro. I need one that does a good job with silica. I was wondering which one of these was the best with good reliability? Or would there be a better company/model that i did not mention?
Also im not going to be able to run it at it's optimal psi which should be around 65 and I was told that this would make the total amount of gpd lower. Also the amount of water that need to be used would increase. I was wondering how i would be able to tell when the carbon filter and sediment filter would need to be changed because of this? I cant think of anything else right now. Any help or advice is grealty appreciated. Thanks

I own and use a Kent Marine Maxxima Hi-S 35GPD (4-stage!) unit and I love it. Works really well and I would recommend it.

If your psi is of concern I belive there are pumps you can buy to boost your psi and fix this problem. As far as how frequent to change the filters I change the carbon/sediment filters every 6 monthes and the DI cartridge every 6-12 months.

If your getting your own RO unit you MUST buy a TDS meter. Learn from my mistake! I was putting water in my tank that was 2x worse then my tap water 8O. now I check every single batch of water with my TDS meter religiously.

I have a Spectrapure model (forget which one) and I have had no problems with it. I also have a Captive Purity unit that works flawlessly. To be honest, I think they're all pretty comparable.

It's probably more important the qualitly of cartriges that you use rather than the unit. Granted, you don't want to be a crappy unit, by as Len stated they are basically all the same, some with a few extra bells and whistles.

Ok lets just say that it comes with a 5 micron sediment filter and a carbon filter. If i wanted to put the 1 mircron sediment filter in an a .5 micron carbon filter that would work?

And also do the filters turn a different color or anything when they need to be replaced. Or do you have to buy the extra gaget to monitor the water?

One more thing just curious about the liquid filled pressure gauges that come on some of the filters. Are they worth it or not?
