I recently installed a dual 175 MH setup on my 46 BF. Since I have done this my tank seems to be breeding bubbles. They are everywhere. I can see them in the sand on the rocks and coral. They seem to just form out of no where. I am getting very irritated with this. I dont know if this is directly connected to the Lights or not but I hate them. If anybody else has had this happen to them please tell me how you stopped it and what caused it.

Thanks,
Shane

Perhaps you always had them, but the bright lights make them much more visible....this was the case with my tank when upgrading from a single 32 watt bulb to 8 65 watt bulbs.....i got used to it though.

Sounds good but no. These are not small bubbles. They are pretty big, like the size of a BB.

Sounds like the start of dinoflagellates to me.....

Wait about a week and see if the bubles start forming a light-brown film of slime....

I hope I am wrong, but that is exactly what happened to me when I started using MH...

The same thing happened to me. After a week, everything cleared up and the tank became clean again. However, what you will see is huge pieces of algea will start to form on the rock and sand. As the light causes more oxygen productions, the algae will break off and float to the surface. You will need to use a net to scope them out. Gross.

I agree with Dave sounds to be the start of dinos. The best cure for these is very good nutirent export, high PH for a couple of days and no light at all for a few days. Its the best to covor the tank copletely for the no light cycle. If its not that bad and is dinos try cutting the photoperiod back first. Also raise the p[h for a few days and slowly bring back your light cycle see if that helps.

Thanks everybody. It has started to clear up already. I have started to get a small cyano problem. The first in a year. I am trying to get rid of that and I am also getting a small green hair algae prob. What can I add by way of critters to tackle these probs?

Thanks,
Shane
