Safe?

It's been over 3 month since the second 'Ich Outbreak of 2003 in My Tank', and I haven't added any fish, nor has anything died. SO basically, my inverts outnumber the fish 7 to 1 (or mybe 1,000,000 to 1 if you count pods). I have a yellow watchman goby, 2 brittle stars, hermits, urchin, and a shrimp. There haven't ever been any signs of ich on the goby. I've lessened my water change schedule from once a week to once every other, as my NSLFS said that could be stressing out the fish. My two first corals (mushies/buttons) are thriving. Is it safe to add fish? Thanks!

I would add new fish slowly now (dont start with a tang) and feed high quality food soaked in selcon and some garlic extract. This not only should prevent a reacurrance of the ich but if garlic is used in the early stages of ich it seems to repel the parasites from the fish.

Yea what does changin water have to do with fish stress? Unless you are dumping 5 gallon bucks of water directly into your tank, thus creating a tidal wave of water and pushing your fish into the reef like they were surfers.

Once a week, about 5 gallon changes on a 29 gal.

That means siphoning once a week, too.

Last time i re-started, I added a pair of clowns who got it. 8O :? CAn you get much hardier than that?

Have you thought of adding a cleaner shrimp. I do not know if it would stop it, but it would be a good preventitive measure. Plus I think they are cool. I see you say shirp is it a cleaner or something else?

In perspective, lclowns are hardier than most, though.

Yes, it is a cleaner. Haasn't done much, btut that's probably cause there's one fish ion the tank!

Wpould my very large, healthy and growing population of pods help with introducing fish and stress and that stuff?

Both "damsels" and "clowns" are in the family Pomacentridae, so basically there's as closely related as, say, pygmy angels and large angels, taxonomically speaking....clownfishes in the genera Amphiprion and Premnas are in the subfamily Amphiprioninae.

Well, after reading the article posted by Richison ( it is pretty good, read it), I put 2 and 3 together (got 6 :? ) and concluded that with all the water cyanges, the rapid temp. change would stress out the fish enough to get ick.

I feel smart and like a marine biologist, for once. 8O

BTW, I still keep getting 6. Can someone help? :lol:

I have found the root of my ick troubles-temperature and salinity shock. This happens every water change, and with this once a week, NO KIDDING THEY GOT ICK!

I will sound like one of your Earthling politicians and say that I am taking steps to make sure it does not happen again. :wink:
