Hi everyone.
I purchased a riterri anemone(Heteractis magnifica) yesterday for my tank and acclimated it over about 40 minutes and then introduced it. It climbed to the top of the tank as members of this species are oft observed to.
Here is the problem however, it was large and full looking last night. Tentacles extended and mouth visible but firmy closed. Today however, the tentacles look deflated and the mouth seems to stick out even though its still closed.:(
Any idea what coud have caused this? Or (and i know this is a long shot) is this normal during acclimation?

Thanks for your replies.

Cheers!

First off, 40 minutes was not long enough to acclimate this guy. But most likely, he is expelling waste.

I have a 55 Gallon Corner tank about 40lbs of live rock and about 50 lbs of live sand. 2 65 Watt PC bulbs, one actinic and the other is 10,000K.
Nitrates = 30ppm
Nitrites = Undetectable
pH = 7.6

I am the cause of your anemone problem. I broke into your house the other night and poked it repeatedly with a sharp stick. Please send me $5 million in Peruvian banknotes or I will do it again.

Said notes are at the drop point..... $20 unmarked bills. ;)
By the way my clowns have taken to it in just 1 day!!! :eek:
It is still just about a third of its original size but it is now stable and happy at the top of the tank.

Update:
Anemone is looking good now. Back to about 3/4 normal size... moving about towards the light, and the perculas have taken to it like bears to honey. I also fed it a ghost shrimp and it reacted instantly and grabbed it.. cool! :)
I guess its going to be okay.....

Second Update:
Metal Halides installed today and wow... what a difference!
The anemone is blooming and everything looks great in the tank.
Thanks for all your advice. :)
