interesting that the instructions advise not to use in tanks that have a low level of Po4. I wonder what they consider a low level?

it looks like FM has 3 different phosphate removers. Ive never used any of the 3 but i am a fan of the other FM stuff i have used.

i wander what the difference is between the UltraSil and the Ultra PowerPhos...both seem to be Iron based

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica]these are the 3 fauna marin products that remove po4.
the fact that they have 3 makes me think they are pretty serious
about controlling po4 in reef tanks

UltraPhos is an aluminum based absorber granulate for the secure binding of phosphate, humic acids and organic pollutants. Ultra Phos does not release aluminium into the aquarium water due to a special additional activation of the raw material. It is designed for quick water clearance and phosphate and yellowing substance binding.

Ultra PowerPHOS is a new wet Iron-hydroxide based absorber which safely removes silicates and phosphates from the aquarium. The pollutants are bound to the surface of the UltraPowerPHOS media and will NOT be released again. Ultra PowerPHOS can maintain very low nutrient concentrations in your tank. Unwanted Algae growth will be stopped and corals will show their natural colours. Be sure to follow the instructions and dosing recommendations. Ultra PowerPHOS is designed to be used with a fluidized bed reactor.

UltraSIL is an Iron-Based absorber for the efficient and safe removal of silicates and phosphates from the Aquarium. UltraSIL binds silicates and phosphates, thereby reducing growth of unwanted algae. UltraSIL has a very high removal capacity and should only be used in small amounts. Please check the Phosphate concentration of the water before using UltraSIL. It is NOT advisable to use UltraSIL in tanks that already have very low or undetectable phosphate levels. One Liter of UltraSIL binds up to 30,000mg or silicate and up to 200g of phosphate.

There is also UltraLife:
UltraLife is a highly active natural clay mineral that absorbs Nitrate and Phosphates. The pollutants will be bound onto the mineral and can be removed by the skimmer. It's large surface area allows for easy colonization with bacteria. It has a unique Ion-exchanger capacity.

I think they mean zeolite systems. zeolite itself has the properties of absorbing some ions and thus they basically fight. I heard numerous mini system crash with the two together when ppl start a phosphate reactor in established zeolite systems.

I forgot ultralife it's a different concept, it's supposed to bind with the no3 and po4 then get skimmed out of the system. I've used it a couple of times, it did nothing bad, I did not test to see how effective it was. so I guess they have 4 anti-po4 products.

Most people I know who use zeolite systems also run phosban reactors 24-7, myself included.

most people i know who use zeo systems do NOT run phosban reactors...myself included.

Every acro in my tank bleached overnight when i tried GFO...In fact FM recommends only using phosphate removers with the ultralith system PASSIVELY as needed...not 24/7.

Someone I know took his phosban reactor offline when he started Zeovit and has not needed it since...He uses a Hanna to check.
