Thanks Shane, I'll check it out.

BTW, Martin Moe just accepted the invitation. He was sorry he had to back out of speaking at MACNA this year due to him having so much going on.

Cheers,
Dennis

How about:

Scott Michael, Daniel Knop, Svein A. Fossa, Alf Jacob Nilsen, John H. Tullock, Michael S. Paletta. Less popular I think but has many decent books: Helmut Debelius.

Reefland, all those are good ideas, except John Tullock doesn't speak at conferences anymore, he seems to be into other things now.

Everyone else you mentioned either spoke at IMAC this year or is speaking at MACNA this year. Don't you want to see anyone new? We could have some of them back but won't some people say "We saw them last year, so why should I go again?". I'd like some input here. Do you guys like to have the same people every year?

Thanks,

Dennis

Reefland, I just checked and Sven Fossa and Alf Nilsen are not speaking this year at either conference. So I was wrong about those two. But I would still like your input about bringing the same speakers back every year.

Thanks,
Dennis

Thanks Rich. I appreciate your input. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Dennis,

I'd love to see a conference actually have people talking about conservation issues. Bring in people from the front lines in the fight against destructive fishing. If you want some suggestions for names, let me know off-line, Dennis. I have met quite a few people who would love to talk about these topics to an interested audience.

Regards.

Hi Mike;

This year we had Steve Robinson, Paul Holthus and John Brandt. Were they in the category of conservation that you were thinking of?

We also had some speakers who were encouraging captive breeding and coral propagation, which I think could fall in the category of conservation as well.

Could you let me know if you think there is more we could be doing.

Cheers,
Dennis

No offense meant to John or Paul or Steve, but.. No.
No more "Round up the usual suspects".
None of them are on the front lines.
If you wanted to bring in someone from the MAC, I would suggest Lino Alvarez as he is the field coordinator, has been to the villages, and can give you a better idea of what is going on than can Paul from Hawaii. If you want to hear what is actually going on, who best to hear it from than someone in Indonesia or the Philippines who deals with this stuff on a daily basis?

Regards.

Dennis: I'd like to see these conferences bring in some of the scientists that are on the cutting edge on a host of topics that might be of interest to hobbyists:

a) zooxanthellae physiology
b) UV and corals
c) coral reproduction
d) coral genetics and color
etc

Dennis,
I had an absolute wonderful time. I would be more than willing to come back again as a speaker and present on any of my research projects.
I'm not sure if there is a way to email or contact those who attended the conference, but if possible I would ask them which speakers they preferred.

Thanks again,

Adam
