the pawerheads may not need internet access... however .. haaving access to my sump, pwerheads, lights etc. over the internet would be awesome .. it would certainly help me curb my fears flooding my house while on vacation

or is it a sign of addiction that i would like to view and maintain my tank over the internet while on vacation .. i think i need help ;-)

yea i was about to say the same thing you can do all of the things you want to do with x10 type devices theres many other probes for your tank you can hook up to the PC, theres no need for a device thats prone to failure like a powerhead have added expense... you can already monitor the things you have with home automation stuff and you can control it over the internet.... get rid of the powerheads if your a true fanatic... build you a closed loop powerheads are for noobs.

Nah. Powerheads can be a great cheap tool, and have their applications. I would restate your statement as 'powerheads in the open are for noobs'.

That not what I meant!
I have three powerheads (hagen 402, 201 and a MJ mini) in my system currently. They are both easy to get to, hidden behind rock work, and on an MVT waver maker so the go off and on every ffew minutes. I could have done a closed loop but it would have been more expensive, taken more time, and in these situations, uglyer becuase the loop coming over the lip of the tank would have been unsightly in these spots.
I also have two closed loops on this system.

hehe, to each his own , i dispise powerheads for their maintainance (in tank) but they are def cheaper, im in the middle of designing a closed looped for my tank with more outlets, i want to tube down behind rockwork , hopefully 5-6 outlets total, have to decide, but this will be the return from my sump... if there are still dead spots i may think about using a power head or 2 but i hate when they clog and i have to dig them out!!!

Weird. I never have the powerhead cloging problem. Perhaps it is because of the on off cycle of that I have them on.
