ok first thing.. if your sump is flooding or leaking, it isn’t setup right! that is sh!thouse crazy rat talk that the reason you don't want a sump is because they leak. plumbing 101 and careful planning have proved that littlery 10's of thousands of people have sumps that are setup correctly and don't leak.
secondly adding macros isn’t the right approach for every tank and every situation. just sticking some into a tank to deal with a situation isn’t the right approach. why does he have high nitrates in the first place, go back to the source and fix that. beyond that fowlr tanks have much higher bioloads than reefs do. it's doubtful that a fudge would help much at all if there is a decent sized bioload.
third and im sure i will hear about this. if you have a buttload of macro in your display without 24/7 lighting you are setting yourself up for a disaster. i think it's a matter of time before your plants go sexual. you will wake up one morning and the tank will be dead. hmm why did that happen you wonder over coffee :roll:
as per yellowing water, yes it can happen but running carbon and doing water changes helps.
dang it seems this is all i do these days, defend why i don't run a skimmer and fuge only. i can see why leng sells models now with a skimmer, im sure he dosent belive in them he just needs to get people off his back.
