When a male Mandarin starts to chase his own reflection, you may want to keep an eye on the pair. Often times this can be a prelude to the male seeking out the female for spawning activity.

Basically the same thing I told you: he's alone :).

I'm not saying that he doesn't attack its reflection on the front glass (especially at night) but that is quite different from the up/down motion that it did on the opaque side wall - that was loneliness.
