When the polyps are out, I love sea fans. I know, kinda beginner type coral, not very exciting to those of you with nice zoos etc, but I dont know, to me it looks very marine lol. Here is a pic of mine

Thanks! I think the polyps are kind purple-pinkish? Or maybe it seems that way because the hard structure is very purple and it is picking up that color.Ill double look at it very closely tonight.
It is doing awesome in the tank, and the polyps have been staying out a bit more. They come out like mad when I feed the tank!
When I feed, I put the nori in first, then the flake, and that gets allof the polyps to come out, and that is when I add daphnia and DT's to the tank...I do shoot some at the Gorg with a syringe with airline tube on it.

I like Acropora spp. :D Great colors and shapes, easy to frag and grow.

Well, I was going to post a thread on it, but since you brought it up...what is the proper way to frag the one I have?

Easy. Get some shears, or wire cutters, or anything else sharp and durable that you don't mind getting rusty in the near future. Cut a branch off. You can also just snap a piece off with your fingers but you risk damaging the coral everywhere you handle it.

Opinions vary on how best to attach it to a piece of rock. You can use superglue, epoxy, or just let it sit on there until it attaches on its own I guess. All work fine. But some people put the frag with the broken end exposed (lay it on its side) and some people attach the broken end to the rock (prop it up vertically). Both work fine IME but I know Eric Borneman suggests the latter.

Then let the frag heal and recover and base plate a bit in the same tank, ideally in or near the same spot of light and flow. The worst thing you can do after stressing and injuring a coral is to immediately ship it off to a different set of water conditions! Of course it does work most of the time, but if you're fragging an expensive coral it never hurts to be careful.

Lawdawg: That's an elegance right? When we first got started the very first coral we bought was an elegance. Little did we know at the time the poor success rate of them. Needless to say ours didn't last long when you also consider our tank had only just finished the cycle. They are beautiful though!

Thanks!

Catalaphyllia jardeinei, aka elegance coral. Used to be easy, now hard. No one really knows why for sure.

I had one in the good ol' way way way back days that was beautiful! I would still love to have one but won't promote the collection of them until they figure out why they die.

Also another "wish coral"...although I think a suitable environment for these guys isn't as hard as it used to be to maintain.

Too bad I didnt know earlier reefnutz, I finally got my frag of superman a month or so ago. Now I am waiting on the rainbow monti, I think I have a trade lined up for that though.

As far as mounting acros I have tried both and when mounting the frag flat it grows out slower IMO but makes a fuller looking colony. I still perfer glueing the boken end down with super glue gel.

I'll be putting one up as a prize in a future Reefs.org Contest. The piece came directly from Matt Hopper. I'm just having a helluva time trying to come up with something other than a photo contest. :?

I still like Xenia one of the most movement in corals. People can have all the SPS and other LPS they want but the one that people point to first is the Pulsing xenia!

"ohh whats that moving thingy??" Gets the ladies every time
