where i live right now there is not much room. ( florida)
looking in to moving to maryland where it is perfect to grow coral!
why you ask
one - cold ground. easy to burry pipe under frost line to chill indoor tanks
two property is cheeper. so i can do outdoor aquaculture ( GOOD BYE LIGHTING BILL)
three. i just love MD

i was thinking of maby concreat tanks with acrilic inside lining.
this will be out side. and covered in a miniture green house. ( more like a lil acrilic house built along the entire aquaculture tanks. with lil hinges to open the roof)
all tanks will be connected to main tank ( indoor displayes and i plan to have several ><
the outside "tanks" will have a flow throu one way design ( from one tnak right to the other nothing fancy) but each tank will have its own wave maker system, ( OM for acro tanks and MJ on a timer for others)

i really hope this comes true as l.. well i would be the happies person alive.

>< sad thing ish rest of family dosnt like the "boonies" and i dont like the city cause of the danm codes they set up
but by doing small "Green houses" i think i can get around it

also.. gonnahave to fix the hole in the wall that is there right now due to my current tank.

and afew other things. i think there will be no profit on current house due to all the crap done to it

( bought 440 other identical houses now selling for 550 sooooooooo yeah kinda suckes that we modified it)

back to tanks. and if i dont do this now ill do it befor i die lol
due to the investment in corals the entire system will be computer controlled and each section can be isolated incase somthing goes wrong in the system, ( leak. me spilling somthing in tank somthing dieing. chemical inbalance that i may wanna seperate everything till i can find the cause.)
lets face it when somthig goes wrong it s easier to care for many lil systems then one big one
actuator vaulves

inside display tanks will include a reef tank
a eel tank and an octopustank.
maby even a jelly fish tank ( upsidedown jelly) so i can take a lil of florida with me lol

listen here. oneday you WILL see a store made by me and odds are you WILL buy somthing i made or grew.

>< i dont give up easily muahahaha><

Doesn't the cold weather in the winter give you a bigger problem than what the hot weather in Florida gives you in the summer.

I would think that Maryland would be a much worse location to grow coral than Florida.

That does seem logical, but according to Anthony Calfo that's not necessarily true. He states in his coral propagation book that keeping a greenhouse cool in the summer is generally a larger problem than keeping it warm in the winter, so northern locations can actually be less problematic.

It is almost always easier to keep thing warm than to keep it cool.

Hey
I am constructing a commercial greenhouse in NC, and from what I have learned I'd have to say, you are better off in florida with a greenhouse with side curtains to cool it than MD.

You will find that with gas prices to heat going up up up....your dream might just be that, unless it is not for profit.I have a 115,000 btu wood fired boiler to supplement my heating cost and hope it will make the difference between competing and just spending.I also have a free or cheap supply of wood. I would hate to see the cost off heating one in MD.I hope the gas problems change, but until then you are better off in florida imo.

you remove heat, you don't add cold

basic laws of thermodynamics

the more heat that an object holds, the less energy input is required to raise the temp further (i.e. less energy is required to raise a pot of water from 120° to 121° than from 110° to 111°)

water is also a very good heatsink

You mean for coral farming? Where? I'd love to come by and see it once it's done if you don't mind.

The next one will be much bigger

now that I think about it, mabey you are the lady I met at Brads store (Pet Paradise) at a frag swap, I had a bunch of red shrooms with me

Geo thermal heating and cooling, isn't always cost effective. I have a friend that changed over to that, aside from the cost of the new system, they have to buy $400. a month chemicals. Not a freaking savings by any means. And it was because of the high calcium levels in the ground water.

Another point, it costs more to heat than to cool.
