I feed Julian Sprungs Green AND Purple seaweed In small chunks on a clip My tang, Goby, and Even sallly light foot crab love it and consume it all. I have heard that most regular flake food puts more PO4 (phosphate) in circulation contributing to Nuisance algea. For Coral AND fish I also add minimal amounts of KENT Zoo Plex and Kent Micro Vert.

What i want to know is the toxic out the other end

As long as you wash it well there should be no trace of pesticides. The lettuce itself is not toxic.

i would think that organic lettuce would be better to start out with, because it lacks the pesticides and what not.

Just rinse it, then freeze it and you should be good to go.
The nutritional value of lettuce is low though.
You could try using collard greens, kale, parsley or even peas. They are more nutritional.
