Hey Dan, I just plugged in a Phoenix 14K to replace my Giesemann Megachrome Blue the other day.

Here's a shot from yesterday:

I thought I had heard that the AB was slightly bluer than the Ushio
That's true with 150s, but with 250s the Ushios are bluer.

I'm hoping Iwaski makes their 14K in 250 DE some day. They just introduced it in 175 watt Mogul and it's the brightest 175 watter Sanjay has ever tested. The color is actually true to the rating too (not too blue or not blue enough like most of the 14Ks out right now).

Well, for what it is worth, I have the 250W XDE XM bulbs in my lights right now in the 20K flavor and they are a bit too blue for me. I am thinking of trying the XM 14K or the Ushios in the same flavor. I have a good deal on some ushios right now that I might take him up on just to see the difference. I originally had the 10K XDE XM bulbs and I didn't like them either as they were too white. I don't have a canopy to supplement the actintics with so I am looking for the right combo in just the MH bulbs. I am going to give the ushios a shot, I think, and see how they work out. I am not entirely displeased with the 20K bulbs, but I think I can get better growth with a 14K than I am with the 20K. Anyway, all that being said, it is just IMO.

Hamiltons are cheap China junk just like the XMs. I will never cheap out again when it comes to lighting. I have never had problems with AB or Ushio lamps.

Many people including myself use and have sucess with the XM bulbs. I do not consider them junk.

Oh did I hurt someone's feelings expressing my opinion? What a bunch of girls.

German, NOT!

All European lamps have CE and/or EU on THEIR lamps!

How about a link to a "Hamilton" 250 DE lamp so we stay on topic!

Also, please read the text in the link you sent by mistake. What exactly is a Ushio/Hamilton bulb???

Like I said they use Ushio brand bulbs that are manufactured in Germany. When sold 9 times out of 10 they will have Hamiltons name on the bulb.
BUT HEY ARE STILL MADE IN GERMANY! LOL!!!!

Now as for 250w ushio 10k moguls, I find them to be way to yellow looking for my taste. I love the hamilton 14k 250w moguls, but I havent tried the DE's yet.
The 250w hamilton 14k moguls tend to get VERY blue a couple months in.
This I dont like so much but you dont need any actinic. My corals do great under them , but astheticly to blue for me.
Pics turn out very blue. Now the 12k 250w sunbursts do the same but tend to stay more purple blue.
I am entering the DE realm now with my new set up I have comming and would like some opinions as well on which bulbs look apealing, and still keep your corals healthy.
250w de Ushio ? True Hamilton (if there is such a thing), Aqualine, Radium, or Xm's?
I dont want to go to blue, and I have no problem adding VHO actinic if there is a true 10k bulb that dose not look yellow in this bunch.
Thank fellas.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet...

The new Reeflux 10k bulbs from coralvue. (not the old piece of crap coralvues)

similar par to an XM10k
but a VERY crisp white with a hint of blue
(no yellow tint like XM10ks)

Sanjay has only tested the 10k SE versions and not the DE. but i've seen the DE running in person on icecap ballasts. hands down best bulb i've seen. amazing colour temp. excellent par

if you find want a bluer bulb. then the phoenix bulbs are great. but with the decreased par the growth isn't as fast. i also find that red/yellow/blue sps don't show up as nicely under blue bulbs.

All the below refers to DE bulbs:

I'm now running the XM10k 250 bulb between my 2 ushio 10k 250s. Its a nice bright light but its a pretty ugly color. Has sort of a flat yellowish tint to it, and the corals don't look nice. The ushios really are that "white with a hint of blue" but I could use a slightly more obvious hint. Most likely I'll stick with ushios and add an additional VHO actinic or two.

Then I think I shal try 2x250w DE 10k Ushio's with 2x140w VHO super actinics. Well maybe not URI's. Any sugestions for my VHO actinic bulbs?
Thanks fella's.
