I want a rose BTA for my 10 gallon nano reef. I want to get a pair of pink skunk clowns to host in it.

Tank specs:
10 gallon standard
96 watt PC 50/50
hang on filter with filter floss and carbon
fission nano skimmer
power head
crushed coral
5 pounds of LR (plan to add 5 more already cured from main tank)

Tank specs
very steady 79F
ph 8.3
sg 1.025
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10-15ppm (not adding anything until that drops to a steady 5ppm)
ca 440
kh 90

Inhabitants:
one striped damsel
a few mushrooms that hitched in from my main tank...growing well
some chaeto and caulerpa (doing well to lower the nitrate at the moment)

Now, assuming I can get this tank very stable, I want to add a BTA. The damsel isn't a permanent resident. He will be gone in a couple of months when his owner moves into a new house.

Will a damsel fall into a BTA?
Do I have enough light for one?
Will the BTA protect the skunk clowns from harrasment from the damsel? (although the damsel is very peaceful with other fish he has lived with, who knows if he might have a bad day.)

Thanks,

I hear that Pink skunks don't ship well and are very prone to brooklynella disease. This does sound like a neat project though! I'm pretty sure that even some damsels host as well, but maybe not your type, although I wouldn't worry about him falling prey to your BTA. 96W on a 12" high aquarium should be a big plenty (9.6 watts a gallon). Good luck!

Thanks fyrefysh.

My LFS has pink skunks regularly. I might be lucky because he has a couple of pink skunks living in one of his coral holding tanks. They have been in there for months living between the coral racks with no problems. Not sure if he gets them from the same guy he gets his tank bred false percs, but just in case the clown fish's disease might be an issue, I will play the deposit game and get him to hold my pair for a week in one of his tanks.

Thanks for the advice. :D

I would not put a BTA in a 10 gallon.

Mine had gotten up to 14" across and I have seen them bigger than that.

If that happens, I'll sell it and replace it with a smaller one.

I've heard they tend to split easily before they get that big. That's one reason I thought I'd get a BTA.

Just seems like a lot of work to me, that's all.

Never had an anemone before. Have an opportunity to have one in this tank since I don't have any coral in it.

You like them. Don't you think it's worth the trouble?

I had BTAs a few years back. I bred them for my LFS. It became a hassel rearranging the tank for them every time they split.

Oh yeah, I did like them. They are a very attractive anemone. I have a carpet now.

I know who to ask questions now! Get ready for some PMs when I get one.

Anyway, it's a 10 gallon tank. It shouldn't be too hard to move rocks around in it. That's one reason I want it in that tank. I figure it will make a nice looking tank in my den and maybe if it splits I can sell off the clones.
