And I totally can understand about the cost of a tank, maybe not as much as some of you who require chillers and have multiple 400w MH bulbs over your tank, but I see the electric bill every month

I have 4 - 400's MH's and 3 - 75W VHO's over my 300G. I also have 2 - 175's over my fuge. This months power bill was $493.00. 8O Having a swimming pool and an outdoor pond doesn't help much either.

Problem with coral keeping/selling is that it's almost a pyramid scheme, by the time you get a bunch of your stuff grown out it's become a lot more common of a piece and as such has less of a value

This is true. But if you start out with $15 orange caps or green picilipora your screwed from the begginng.

The purple monster will probably always demand a high dollars since is a slow grower. Same can be said for others. It's a risk, but I don't care if I get $100 per frag for a pink lemonade. But it would be nice, but as long as I can sell it for enough to make the shipping effort worthwhile, I'll be happy. I can't imagine a coral like that becoming so common place that I end up throwing frags out in the yard.

Louey, the tank looks awesome! Beautiful fish too! My sailfin also eats anything from flakes to frozen to freeze-dried to seaweed to algae. I'm happy that it's like that and really curious on top of it! I agree with you, it's a wonderful, wonderful fish!

Also, that Atlantic Blue is so beautiful that it's now on my list for when I go with a bigger tank! :D

I saw adult Atlantic Blue Tangs the size of dinner plates while diving off Key Largo. I knew then that I had to have one.

I got this one when it was small. Maybe 2.5" long. I kept him in my old 75G and he was clearly unhappy. His demeanor changed so much when I put him in the 300G. That taught me a lesson on what tangs really want for swimming space. "The book" says 75G is the minimum size tank for an Atlantic blue. I disagree. I think a 6' tank with lots of swimming space is needed.

There's one thing about my 300G tank that might not be obvious from these pictures. The rock is not stacked against the back wall. There is at least 6" clear at the base of the rock and even more up high. Plus the middle is open for the clam. All of this makes for a lot of swimming space of fish. They like it and need it IMHO.

GAH! Lesse, I only have a couple 250's and some T5s over another tank, so I don't have quite the power load as you... my bill is WAY lower (i'd rather not say how low), then again we don't have that fancy conditioned air you guys probably live with :)

Louey, I can understand why Len doesnt want to compete! :D
That is an AWESOME tank! Kinda explains why you are on the RDO staff 8)
I really like the open spaces you have created, are you carrying a lot of LR in your sump to increase the biofiltration?

There's 250 pounds of live rock in the tank. I don't think I need any more rock for biofiltration. However I do have another 30 pounds or so of LR in my 75G refugium. I grow cheato there too.

I think Len has a 20G Nano with 20 fish in it and doesn't want to be flamed.

Randy, how much does that clam weigh, anyway?

Peace,

Obviously, I have never weighed him. But I would guess that he weighs 7 - 8 pounds. Of course, most of that is water weight.

Good question though.

It appears that Len has a small one. That being said, you can't really blame him for not wanting to show it to us. 8O
