Seems to me the clowns would only be sucked in by the powerheads if they couldn't swim away - i.e. if they were sick/weak. At least that's what has ever happened to me. Do you have strainers or prefilters on your powerheads? You could try those to keep them from doing that. Or just a bioball at the intake end of the PH will work also.

clown was not i'll infact they were all doing very well, they were all very small, about 1 inch, I've had them now for over a month and never had any problems from them expet in the last 2 days

I suppose if a clown fish was infact not funny, that might be a reason to end it all. Maybe you got a batch of clowns with no one liners.

ranger your probably right, but I dont think any amount of one liners would of safed them from the killer PH. He was just too good for them.
