I only put the link so someone would know where I got my info from. Not b/c of the vendor site.
.......
That is precisely why I make that comment. The information’s you give are from the vendor and should not be trusted
About the size of the fish in captivity, I know that fish in aquarium will not reach their potential size, but a yellow tang in a 100 g will not have crooked deformed fins like something that have the potential to grow to 20+ inches in the wild. I have seen plenty of deformed larger fish in aquarium.
The crux of the problem here is that I do not trust information from the vendor while you do.

I'd take most advice from sellers with a grain a salt. Actually, probably best to take every advice with a grain of salt, including this one ;)

They are beautiful but adult size is 60+ cm. Best leave in the wild.

so, a 2,000 gal. cylinder tank will be good enough for a valminigii? Or will a 15' /600 gal tank be good for the fish?

A 15' 600 gallon tank? What are the other dimensions? About 2.5' x 2.5'? :?

I don't think a 600 gallon tank would be big enough for a vlamingi.

I saw vlamingii tangs in the aquariums at Mandalay Bay. They are huge fish. Easily 18 - 20 inches long a four or five pounds. They have girth. The don't belong in any aquarium under thousands of gallons IMHO. There just to damn big. Shame too, because the are beautiful! I'd love to have one in my 300G, but no can do.

Yes A 1000 gal tank or more, Ok but a 1000 gal cylinder is Inhuman also, so volume isnt the key wouldnt more distance be more homely?

I'll have to take some good shots at the Ripley's Aquarium here in Myrtle Beach. They have Dussumiers up the ying-yang...just TONS of them in the main fish display system.

Almost all of them are full size, too...very impressive.

Peace,

Chip

Bass Pro Shops here in Ft. Lauderdale has a 1500 gal. tank in the resturant. They had an Olive tang and it was hugh 20'' and about 5 lbs. The tank is cylinder and the tank is too small for that big of a fish to swim in circles.

I guess I should check out the one that's like 10 minutes from me.

I've never been in one.

Peace,

Nay Len, you always give good advice.

On the comments on vendor advice, IMO they should identify that they are vendors in their posts. This would be helpful in a thread such as this one where many expert bobbyists, yourself, Minh and others added their comments. Comments to the effect that a few tangs in a 100 gallon is fine, choose this or that rare tang (read 'high margin') from a vendor are suspect.

Matt I am happy that there is an excellent online vendor that you can recommend. Many reefers do not have good LFS near them with a variety of suitable species.
However, there is nothing like observing the specimen you intend to buy rather than relying on the weather and your online vendor, his deliveryman, the airline etc. to all do their job, eh.
