Is Lugols Lugols?

I'd like to start using Lugols solution as a regular addition to my tank.I feel the inhabitants will benefit.
I can get medical grade Lugols from a local pharmacy for 16oz for $23.Basically a lifetime supply.
Is Lugols Lugols?Has anyone used medical type of Lugols before?Or am I best off with the aquarium grade stuff.
Any info appreciated.

I would buy the one for fish its about $10 bucks for 1 oz I know that not a life time supply for $23 but if you add the wrong thing to you tank just a few drops could end the life of things in your tank, If someone else has tested mabey they can give better input but the extra money for the correct stuff is worth it to me!

I've been using the medical one for over 8 years and still have an endless supply.
It's the same thing in a different package.

Vic is correct..it is the identical product. I spoke with my Pharmacist about it recently and he confirmed it.

I don't dose with iodine but i'm sure someone here can help you find the info on the proper doseage..but do one thing..if you are going to dose iodine, be sure to buy a good iodine test kit!!

I called a few places under surgical supplies.The one I found is in Uniondale.

the kent stuff says 1 drop/25g of tank capacity/week. Since the dose is so spread out and all our livestock can benefit from it and use it normally anyway, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Xenia loves the stuff and you can see all your softies react to the additions positively. It's also a great coral dip (40 drops/1g makes the solution for dipping). We've also used it in a diluted solution on fish with sores or wounds since iodine is a natural astringent.
