After what, 14 years of reefing without a skimmer, I've freakin' bought 3 within the last year :x

Anyway, I got a nice deal on a GroTech HEA 200. I'll be installing it today.

Sweet, not just a skimmer...an awesome skimmer!

I am using a re-cirulating ER and love it for the most part. I wish it came with the ehiem like the grotech though.

 This is my first first time with a non-needlewheel skimmer, so I don't really know what to expect. I'd appreciate any info or feedback, really :P

Your approval's good enough for me

Ben - Yes, the Eheim does seem to be a huge advantage. A whole lot easier to replace than a Sedra. Oddly enough, the Eheim 1260 seems to run cooler than the Sedra 5000 :?:

Some people collect rare corals. Some people collect skimmers. Some people collect both. :P

I've never owned one but GroTechs have a good rep. Enjoy! 8)

BTW, I'm sure it goes without saying that since you've started a thread about it, you're now obligated to post pics once it's up and running...

You got it, Chris!

I installed it last night, and awoke to a quarter filled collection cup with only tea colored skimmate. I had hoped that keeping the adjustment pipe wide open would prevent it from skimming wet, but I was wrong :? This thing sucks in A LOT of air 8O

After experimenting with different diameters of tubing for the venturi, The smallest one seemed to restrict the airflow enough to produce a much drier foam:

I'll post another pic tomorrow, and see what we end up with. Interestingly, feeding didn't seem to effect the foaming at all :D

Well, after 24 hours, this is what it's produced.

It's still skimming wetter than I'd like, so I'll be experimenting with different feed pumps.

It seems that way. Not only is this my first venturi skimmer, but it's also my first recirculating skimmer.

The MJ1200 has the recommended gph for the feed pump on this skimmer. Even with the adjustment pipe wide open and the air restricted, it still skims wet. I'm going to slap on an MJ900 tonight.

Wet skim mate isnt ideal but,I think that most would agree, "wet skim mate is better than none. :D
