Ben - Yes, the Eheim does seem to be a huge advantage. A whole lot easier to replace than a Sedra. Oddly enough, the Eheim 1260 seems to run cooler than the Sedra 5000 :?:
I installed it last night, and awoke to a quarter filled collection cup with only tea colored skimmate. I had hoped that keeping the adjustment pipe wide open would prevent it from skimming wet, but I was wrong :? This thing sucks in A LOT of air 8O
After experimenting with different diameters of tubing for the venturi, The smallest one seemed to restrict the airflow enough to produce a much drier foam:
I'll post another pic tomorrow, and see what we end up with. Interestingly, feeding didn't seem to effect the foaming at all
It seems that way. Not only is this my first venturi skimmer, but it's also my first recirculating skimmer.
The MJ1200 has the recommended gph for the feed pump on this skimmer. Even with the adjustment pipe wide open and the air restricted, it still skims wet. I'm going to slap on an MJ900 tonight.
