Lumenarc Reflectors for HQI

What do you guys think of the Lumenarc reflectors?

I currently have a PFO 250W HQI pendant. Looking at the reflector - it appears not that reflective.

The new Lumenarc Pendants look really reflective with their design?

Is there a big difference between a Lumenarc adn a PFO pendant?

I am thinking of ordering one for my tank.

Makes a huge difference, Rob. The bane of HQI bulbs is their crappy spread. A Lumenarc completely offsets that.

Here's how it would look if you were to look directly at it:

Reflecting light into 8 different directions. I have the SE version, but the concept's basically the same for the HQI Lumenarc.

IIRC the new style PFOs are specular reflectors like the Lumenarcs (smooth surface). The old PFOs are diffuse reflectors (dimpled surface).

If you have a new style PFO and a small tank, I wouldn't expect to see a huge gain going to the Lumenarc. If you have the old style, then going to a new style PFO or a Lumenarc would be a big improvement as mentioned.

The lumenarc will give much better coverage over a large tank, but with a tank your size, personally I don't think there'd be much benefit to spending the extra money.

I have the old style - dimpled dull finish reflector now.

Lumenarc all the way. I have the new style PFO. It is very reflective and my tank mates all seem quite happy. I still look at the Lumenarcs on the web and dream of the day.

I received the pendant the other night. This thing is huge compared to the PFO Mini pendant. I need ti swap the cords from the PFO to the Lumenarc because the Lumenarc's cord does not have an end on it.

I hope to have this installed tomorrow.
