Installed my DJ power panel today. It was a bit wide, so I had to cut off an inch of steel off the side with a hacksaw. It was a major pain in the butt getting this thing in there, but I like the convenience!

Siliconed 4 1/4" pieces of glass together (local glass shop supplied and cut these for $15!) to form an overflow box, then cut out a portion of the top brace to accomodate it. Next up will be drilling two holes for bulkheads in the box, and cutting a horizontal slot in the tank for the water to fall through. Stay tuned!

Uh, early-ish. I wanted to drive past you at about 11 and then be coming back the other way around 1230 or so. Avoid the rush hours.

You installing the panel upside down!!! :P

Matt, how do you plan to cut a slit into your tank? And how wide did you make the overflow (front to back)? And then you're going to silicone it behind the tank?

I had to, is the long and short of it. Still works the same. Good eye. :D

Diamond tipped dremel bit. I figured out the other day that in the last few years I've cut almost 20 feet of glass if I were to lay it all out in a single line. :D

And how wide did you make the overflow (front to back)?

The outside diameter of the box is 3.5" x 3.5" x 12".

And then you're going to silicone it behind the tank?

Exactly. In the same position you see it pictured.

Speaking of good eye, is that a Jones cream soda? :D

Is it easy to use the diamond dremel to cut through glass? You just keep boring it out all the way across until it's the depth you want? Any water involved?

Best cream soda and root beer! Their orange cream is pretty good too, but I've found adding a bit of vanilla syrup to Fanta beats it.

It's really easy! You just have to be patient. A hole for a 1" bulkhead will probably take me 15 minutes or so. You start with a pilot hole, using the bit just like a drill. Then you "saw" a circle around with a different bit. A LOT of water is involved. I basically just set up a hose directed at the bit. I'll take pics. Off to build a canopy right now!

Project for Sunday! Cut the wood, routed some smooth rounded corners, shoddily screwed it all together, drilled some holes for plumbing, etc.

There will be 4 3/4" loc-line outputs from the sump return and a closed loop. They each sit well above the waterline. Rather than having the nozzle sit in the water, I'm going to attach some clear vinyl tubing and cut it to match the waterline. Nothing visible inside the tank!

Now I just have to stain and polyurethane the outside, and latex paint over most of the inside.

Why thank you, I knew I'd seen a thread about it... but my searches were coming back empty or irrelevant.

-Adrian

p.s. Ordered three. This is going to be so cool... no more unplugging three things by mistake or dropping plugs in the sump. Sweet.

Matt, I'll be waiting for the glass drilling/cutting pics!!! 8)

The canopy looks clean! Are you going with a pendant and leaving the top open? And I'd like to see how the "vynil nozzles" turn out. What pumps are you using as the return pump and CL, anyhow?

P.S. I'll have to try the fanta-cream recipe. 8) 8) 8) I agree on Jones.

Hopefully Wednesday!

Yup, gonna leave it open. I hate lifting up the top to feed twice a day. :? The light is just a 96W Quad PC. I'm not set on what pumps I want yet. I have a Mag 9.5 laying around. Once all the plumbing is done I'm going to throw the return it on and see how I like it.

P.S. I'll have to try the fanta-cream recipe. 8) 8) 8) I agree on Jones.

I got a little bottle of Torani vanilla at the supermarket. :D
