Anyone using these and if so what model/tank size. Do you like them?

Flow - crazy if you put it too low, too high and angle sort of towards the top and you will get just the opposite effect with too much spray. Sand storm below, waves up top - ended up putting it in the middle.
It treated my sand well there with a light dusting which is what I wanted. More bottom movement. That mixed with the sea swirl seem to be doing well. Although the right side of the tank is a bit more turbulent than the whole tank which is what I'm after.
Concerns - longevity. As I mentioned above, it is affordable. But that is due to how it is made. Affordable over long term will be interesting. Meaning - did I have to buy two of those vs buying one of the better name brangs such as maybe tunz, etc. Secondary concern is the size. It does take up a bit of water realestate. May not be a concern to some, but to me it is somewhat of an eye sore. I have a third one actually and that is that I have read you can not controll this unit by a timer such as a x-10. Meaning, if I could it would probably be one hell of a wave maker set up because I could place more of the smaller ones in the tank with more agressive angles and switch when they are on, off, vs feeding, etc.
May end up trying that anyway - but want to see about the strength of the motor...another day perhaps.
Lastly - I will be picking up the smaller units here shortly for another idea I have.

saf1, thanks for the detailed reply. I too had some "concerns" over quality due to it's price, vs tunze, but figure for the price you'd pay almost as much for an mj1200 with the magnetic holder.
This would be on a 120 FOWLR system (60 inches long).
I'm guaging satisfaction with these pumps before buying.

they cannot be used for wavemaker applications, because they rattle more times than not when firing up. if your display is close to your main sitting room, this will get annoying quickly.
i have 2-model 4's, in a 125 gallon display. i'm not too bothered by the size (6" from glass to edge), but i'm not sure if i have too much flow or not yet, with all the softies in my tank. like stated above, i had to angle them just right so my sand bed would stay intact, and at the same time, keeping salt creep to a minimum.
i do like the way they are built. shrimp and snails can crawl all over the outside of that cage, and not get sucked in(this was a problem i had with the aqua clear "snail eaters"), because intake is so spread out, it's not a powerful suction. the spray is kind of like a "V". sort of like 2 streams, and you have to rotate the unit to find what's best for you.
once running , they are pretty quiet. :wink:

I too have heard the same about the rio seio controller. I have two 4's in my 180 and they replaced 4 maxi jet 1200's I had in their spot. I still have a couple other mj1200's along the back glass, but probably only because I never ordered myself any additional koralias.
Actually - this raises a good question regarding wave maker use.
Thanks for clearing up why it is not recommended - quick on/off type issue and noise. Makes sense now. However, now I'm wondering if there is a device that allows power to ramp up and down instead of a quick on or off. Neptune may have it on their power strip controller, I'll have to check.

I have the Hydor big one forget the size i think 1200, the biggest one they have.
I wouldn't put these on wave makers regardless if the power ramped up or not. The opening to the pump is fairly large. if the power was kicked off I think an animal of some kind could actually get in the housing of the pump itself. ( shrimp, snail, small fish, ect.) then the power to the pump kicks on and you have instant sushi. I dunno just a thought, anybody get a little critter diced up??

Well - in the way I was explaining it some work like a reostat or volume control. 0 = lowest setting or light on power vs 10 being full power. I'm not positive if the neptune does this or not. In the past, previous versions of their controller used x-10 units. Which is off/on, instant.
They have a new controller which lead me to believe it is a gradual process. If not them, I believe some other wave makers did something like that. But...I may be wrong and misunderstood...

I was just wondering about these pumps, too. I'm about to drop some $ on some type of wave motion system. I don't know that I want to give up that much real estate, though. I'm also thinking about the Tunze Stream w/ Wave controller and night sensor. Anyone using this system? Is this worth the extra bucks over the cost of a midsize Nanostream or Koralia?
Well, I don't have piles of cash laying around. What if you only had a small mound of cash? Would you buy a Nanostream over the Koralia? Seems like the Koralias are cheaply made. I'm just basing this on what some reviewers have said, not on actual experience, though.
As for the modded Maxijets, how do you get away from just straight laminar flow with those? Aim them at each other and time the wavemaker to small time intervals? Hmmm, I like your idea. WAAAY cheaper, but is it effective? May be worth a try to find out. I'll do a search for a mod...you know how they are modded? Thx!

Let me clear something up in case what I said is taken the wrong way. I'm not exactly saying Koralia's are cheaply made. I mearly questioned the longevity of them when all I've owned and operated one was for a week.
More than likely they are made with lighter plastic, etc to reduce the cost. But so far I can only question based on the look and feel. But just because it is sold cheaper than others or lighter plastics used does not mean it will fail in a couple months.

I love these pumps. As the others have stated for the $$$ you can't go wrong. I believe these give the nano's a run for their money.
No you can't use these pumps on a traditional wavemaker, however as the others have stated you can run them on a SEIO maker. I have two of the 3's on a Seio wavemaker in my 75. They actually replaced two 1100 seios that I had in there and I like the results better. I have been running them on the wavemaker since the hydors first came out and I have never had a problem with them. I'm also running 2 4's on a seio wavemaker in my 120 sps tank and don't think that I'll switch to anything else.

I love my tunze stream and I am pretty happy with my maxijet mod. I plan on adding the Seio wave controller to my MJ mod. I have some heard that the maxijets work fine with the Seio controller.
If I were to get a nano stream or a Koralia, I would get the nano stream and the branch adapter to hook up to my existing controller.
But, if I did not have a stream already, I think I would still prefer a stream. I am not saying that a Koralia is not good, but though experience with Tunze and the very high satisfaction rate, I would go Tunze.

Like to see someone come out with a more affordable version of the EcoTech Marine VorTech Propellor pump. That thing looks sweet and very, very low power consumption.
