welp,

I have got the itch! so i better do it while i have the money! :)

Main Tank

a 80g horse trough made by tough tote. The inside measurements are roughly 42 x 27 x 16. on the top pf one of the sides will be 4 3/4" returns that will have lockline jobbers on them. the overflows will be 2 x 2" standpipes.

Sump

a 100g large grey waer tank. there is a bulkhead already drilled in the bottom as a drain. this will be my feed for the return pump (if i use an external. I might just use a submersable for teh time being....

Skimmer

an AquaEuro USA classic 400

Lighting

2 175w SE 15k iwasaki with 2x 65w pc's in unk spectrum as of now....

pics to follow....

Groovy, I always thought about using one of those preformed pond liners that I have sitting around as a grow out tank, powered by natural sunlight too! Although I worry if the black will be "bad"... both in terms of lack of reflection coming back up, and absorbing too much "heat" from the sun.

i was in a reef shot in canoga park... Vivid Aquariums (www.vividaquariums.com) they have two really huge raceway tanks plumbed together. they are black. I noticed that there was a lot of coraline growth... and the added bennie of not having to care for 4 other viewing panes..

I am gonna post pics in a bit. my camera is charging.

Hmm totally forgot about the coraline growth... although I don't think purple would be much more reflective than black :D

some build pics.

I installed the return bulkheads and started some plumbing. my buddy is giving me a mak4 pump i will use as a return.

I plumbed one 2" drain. still debating if i need to install another.

dropped the skimmer in the sump for fit. I think i am gonna have to raise it up a bit. there is a acrlic shop in town. i will prolly throw this bad boy in the truck and see if they can cut me a piece for a shelf....

thinking of settin up a fuge in the sump too. let me hear your thoughts.

I bought a used MRC CA Rx for cheap 5lb bottle, solenoide/regulator and a 2nd chamber for $250 shipped.

here are some pics.

Lookin good. I picked up a 20L for mine, but I like the idea of the big sump area with those troughs.

Ben, any updates? :D

Roughly, what are the dimensions of the 100G? What are you using for flow in the main tank? And are you going to be able to put any baffles in the sump, considering the irregularity of the sides?
