Alrighty. I just don't want to be out a kickass tank if it fails.

When you build it. Use some wood glue on every joint as you go and wipe the excess off with a damp towel. That will help to increase its strength even more. If you do that you will likely need a slegde hammer to get it apart.

I will do this, but the wood is finished, I imagine that makes a difference?

It actually doesnt matter what the material is. The bond of a whole seam is stronger than two screws etc. no matter what kind of finish it is. It wont be a cure all but it surely helps.

Yes. Why are using a RR tank to put flowers in?

Because:

1) I got an incredible deal on this tank.
2) I need a tank to put my flowers in.
3) If I settle down and decide to once again subject myself to the OCD hypertensive hell that is me trying to grow corals, this tank will be perfect. By then hopefully I will have a greenhouse for the flowers.

Questions?

Makes sense. You'll probably be able to run some wires/tubes/etc through the overflow to make it look clean too. :D

I think it will hold the weight no sweat. Are you getting the Ikea table b/c it's cheap, nice looking, or a combo of both? Obviously if you filled that thing with water the Ikea particle board wouldn't handle it. If you may turn it into a reef someday, why not just buy a nice stand now and save yourself the trouble in the future?

Cause I can afford that crappy TV stand. A decent stand would take a chunk out of my budget for the rest of the project, and it matches the rest of my crappy ikea furniture (my tv is on the exact same thing), and it's at a pleasing low level for my crappy vertically challenged ass.

Mostly lowland rainforest orchid species from the Western Pacific Warm Pool. Papua New Guinea, especially.
