I?m currently at war with what I believe is Leuconia Palaoensis (White Sponge) & Calcoreous. I have a small size (about 10?) lava rock that was once covered W/ polyps & now overgrown w/ White sponge. The sponge seems to thrive in low light areas, behind LR, but has spread out to the light.
I have exposed this piece of rock to the air & ripped off the spreading sponge that is engulfing my polyps only to have it grow back. I know the first obvious in a nutrient export problem, but I don?t believe this to be the case. I can?t get the majority of the sponge since it is in-between the many crevasses of the heart of the rock. Anything this rock touches seems to start growing this sponge.
The Calcoreous is in one spot of the tank & hasn?t affected anything (yet), but has grown back after ripping it up a couple of times (growth much slower than white sponge). I also have an orange sponge in my tank (Kaliphiidion sp I think?) that is covered w/ Christmas worms that hasn?t spread @ all or very minimally (thanks saltycreefer looks beautiful & have counted a total of 16 worms altogether)</SPAN>.
Does anyone have any idea what to do? I am about to dump the rock, but I hate to kill the polyps (@ least 80 nice ones) since they are still alive & open back up every time I rip the sponge off of it.
