but will it hold enough to keep the water out?
i think that is my concern. it will have plenty of rock around it to hold it in place.

Quit clogging up the Sump's bandwidth with these on topic posts. I don't want to have to wade through a million post on fish just to get to a Paris Hilton post or a LOL cat.

Moderators - please explain the rules to this guy.

Seriously? That was their answer? :?

Ok, how about taking up some of the gap with more pieces of glass, cut to fit? Then you should be able to get a really tight seal, if I'm understanding what you're describing correctly.

Marina,
you have to remember that glass cages are sob's at the best of times

I have never had to deal with them, and after reading some of the posts of others' experiences, I never will. I was thinking about dropping some goldfish into my water bin that's on the back deck, though (where I store water for my secret garden). I still love goldies and koi. :D

****how do you quote someone?****

other than this past phone call's answer i have absolutely nothing bad to say. and given this morning's conversations i think its almost safe to say that is nearly a personal choice about whether its good or bad with the "overflow cover thingy".
(wow, that's a non-committal sentence.....)
overall it was actually a very positive purchase experience. all phone calls during the deciding phase, and there were many, were all returned or answered promptly. i would do business with them again.....
and so far i am quite please with my tank, stand, and sump.

i'll keep you posted as to what happens with my satisfaction once the tank actually gets rolling......
:)

IMO, I would go with an all or nothing type of solution to this "problem"..
(As Mark said, its not actually a problem, by the way..)

I would not seal off the top like that because unless you seal the whole thing all the way around you're going to create a dead pocket of water behind it since the water will fill in from the sides and bottom where its not sealed.

And sealing all the way around will also create an air gap that will place strain on the cover and warp it a little over time. (Which is nothing but a cosmetic issue..)

Again, like Mark said, its not an issue though.. - You might want to do a few spots of silicone here and there in the middle to keep it from being knocked/pryed away from its placement but that might not be necessary if it snaps into place securely.

Also, if you do silicone it, be very careful which kind of silicone you use too.. - Make sure it does NOT have mold inhibitors as that will leach toxins into your tank.
