Someone started a thread the other day that got me thinking about my old reef tank. For the first time in a year, I actually started missing it. For the last few days I have been looking around my house thinking of places where a tank could go. I have no space or desire to start anything huge again, so a nano of some type is what I am thinking.

This mini system caught my eye: 14 gallon It can come with a protein skimmer and a UV filter. It also has an optional 70W MH fixture that is available that looks quite nice.

I need to look around to see if I can find a spot for the 28G version. I have a perfect spot for the 14G version.

This time I am not going to do an SPS tank. I am think LPS and acans and such. My LFS still has some of the "war coral", so that is a definite.

I would like to find one of those baby elegance corals too. If it were small enough, i could keep it for few years.

The only fish that would go in this tank would obviously only be one or two small goby type fish. A shrimp would be nice.

Welp, it sounds like I have myself completely talked into it.

Is the ecosystem a good nano, or is something better out there? I saw one of these setup at my LFS and it looked pretty sweet.

Any other tips that I should know before jumping it?

Can I have a small school of mandarin's or a vlamingi tang? :P

That looks like a neat little tank. I am sure it will be nice little LPS tank to relax infront of.

Good luck!

Well, as always the fish tank rules the house. We just reaaranged the living room furniture and I have a perfect spot for the 28 gallon tank.

And the living room layout is actually better then before.

Before I went elcheapo

Is ecosystems considered el cheapo?

I looked at these websites and loved what I saw:

http://www.nanocustoms.com

I see Custom Nanoreefs, Oceanic biocubes and Red Sea Max tanks at this site. Which of these are better than ecosystems and why?

I'm not looking to go cheap here, but I don't like throwing money away either.

Also, are there any really good stands that any of these come with? I have nice furniture, so a real nice stand would be a plus. Of course, I could always have one built to match my entertainment center and desk (which both match and are custom made).

I'm getting a little bit excited about this. :D

 no... I am "el cheapo" and went the low tech lower cost used tank (well not really in the long run) way with my nano as shown in my build thread. I didn't have the initial investment, so rather than wait I cobbled it together  ahh, it doesn't look too bad.

I researched the modded biocube because it was within my pricepoint and saw lots of favorable reviews. As far as the stand, if money wasn't an issue I'd say have it made to match.

If you search the nano forums here, there is plenty written about all of those cubes. In fact, posting a thread down there might not be a bad idea.

Oh, and I was kidding about the frag. (((sniffles_back_tears))) ;)

That 34G Red Sea Max is starting to look sweet. I could get it with 150W HQI, some atinics and some LED Moonlights.

Well, since it's a nano, they'll have to be fragged often. Tracy, I hope you know would give you a frag of anything in my tank if you came by my house. ;)

Heh...ya know I can fly to Ft Myers pretty cheap from Detroit ;) . Seriously though, if you like anything I have just let me know and I'll ship you a snippet as my gift to you. In the past I've traded some beauts with people here.

The Solana system included a (slightly) automatic freshwater top-off system. That's pretty cool.

 you've got it bad! I should start a poll to see just how long you last before you pull the trigger and buy one of these.

The real question is will I order it on-line or let my LFS charge me extra for the same thing.

Welp, I just sent my cabinet maker and email requesting a quote for the stand.

But I'm not waiting for it to be built. The tank can sit on a temorary end table for the time being.

Got to get that cycle started ya know!

I'm leaning toward the JBL Premium Series: http://www.nanocustoms.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=200

That's pretty slick with 2-18 W Actinic PC's, 1-150W HQI with a Ushio 20K, and 4 "Blue Nite-Vu LED's.

It also comes with four cooling fans and an automtic cut-off in case the fans all fail. Prevents overheating, which is important since this one has a hood and MH.

Hell, I can even get a nano-chiller for only $269.

This all seems so cheap compared to what I spent on my 300G. I can buy the best of everything without spending much money. It would had to spend $1000 on equipment only. I quit keeping track on the 300G when it passed 10,000. 8O
