I have a few questions pertaining to two separate lighting systems. I was getting ready to order some bulbs today and realized a few problems. I recently bought some used equipment, including a Coralife electronic ballast (actually two of them), 96 watt, with a square pin plug. I was going to order some compact fluorescent square pin bulbs for them when I realized my plug differs from the standard cf end cap. Mine has a round end cap with a 1/4" lip around it (the pin holes are about 1/4" apart), whereas the standard type is an oval that the whole end of the bulb fits into, with tabs on either side. What do I have here, and what do I need? Are they compact fluorescent ballasts or something else? Are "compact fluorescent" and "power compact" synonymous?

(THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN RESOLVED 8) )
My next question pertains to a Current light hood (model ID sticker is unreadable), about 2 feet long, with 2 40 watt compact fluorescent bulbs, as well as a lunar light and fan (and 3 switches on the side). One bulb is broken, so I was trying to figure out how to get into this thing. Do I need to unscrew one of the sides and slide the glass out? (I tried this but the screws are rusted and stripped when I tried to unscrew them). I wondered if I was missing something obvious before I start manhandling it.

To your second question:

On my Current USA lights, the bottom "splash protector" slides out one side. Is that what you are asking?

Perhaps on this model it does not simply slide out. Hard to say. Does it feel like it is screwed in there?

YES! It was fused in place with salt buildup, but I freed it. Thanks Chrispy! 8)

Put some Electrical lube on them...it helps bigtime when you try to change the bulbs.

That plug doesn't connect directly to the bulb. It's an intermediary connection located between the ballast and the light fixture.

Thanks Craig, maybe I'll cut off the plugs and wire on some endcaps. I wonder if it matters which wires go where.

No problem, Neighbor.

I have a feeling a multimeter could help you figure out which wires go where, but that's better explained by someone who doesn't still think electricity works by Magic. Maybe SFSU or Dupaboy will chime in.
