Fish as decor

I recently came across this article on the NYTimes website:

We all keep fish for various reasons - aesthetics is definitely one of them. But would you find it cool to eat in a restaurant that has a few aquaria in it?

A few years ago, I was at a conference in Chicago, and had dinner at the Shedd Aquarium that was booked just for the party. At least there, I knew that professionals took care of the fish.

There's a few restaurants on City Island (Bronx) with marine tanks for display.

My friends got married at Atlantis Marine World Aquarium on Long Island and I am totally jealous I didnt think of it first. How cool would it be to get married, eat cake, and swim with sharks!!

The only thing I dont like about eating at a place with tanks in them is that I am so distracted I forget that I am there to eat.

It sounds like professionals take care of the fish at this place as well. Fish tank maintenance bill is $3,000/month.

Have not been there in awhile, but there is a middle eastern rest. in bklyn on Coney Is. Ave called Saharra, from what I recall they had quite a few tanks throughtout the Rest.

I've been to Saharra; they do have a few fresh-water tanks. Nothing fancy, though.

Sahara used to have some nicer tanks but I think the owner passed and his family now maintains them which is why they are no longer what they once were.

There are some placed in Williamsburgh, Great Neck and Bay Ridge that have Marine tanks.

Sahara has some stock freshwater tanks, nothing crazy, good food though (especially late night lol). We are actually installing a 2k gallon for a restaurant chain opening in Washington, D.C. With jobs like that you install it and find a local outfit you trust to maintenance it. You have to make it as easy as possible to maintain so the odds of something happening are slim. There are a lot of restaurants that have tanks and more are getting them. Most places just don't know what it entails and they want to keep costs down so it's hard to get everyone on the same page as far as what is needed and what they perceive as the extras.

i've eaten at a restaurant in Paris where most the aquaiurm is underneath. the floor board was transparent so u can see the fishes swimming around.

Arirang has a big sw tank.

Prime Grill in Manhattan has a couple of FO tanks. Their's Sushi Metzuyan in Queens ( Main St ) that has a series of nice FOWLR tanks running the length of the restaurant set up such that they appear to be one tank.
