If you have any aiptasia ridden live rock that has no other pests (flatworms and other critter), I would be interested in obtaining some.

I had a problem with these pests and I tried everything from peppermint shrimp (they did wonders in the sump/fuge, nothing in the tank) Copperband butterflies (what a waste of time, better to just flush your money down the toilet), Kalk paste/Joe's Juice and such... I kept on reading and researching and came across the threadfin butterfly fish (Auriga butterly) and decided to try it out. I had nothing to lose since the aiptasia was now the size of BTA's (no joke). The infestation was crazy and made me want to start the whole tank over again but I haven't had the time or inclination to do so.

I asked Michael Stern from NY Aquatic to try and get some of these in from Hawaii and I waited for maybe 7 months or so. The ones from Hawaii are supposed to be better and safer for your reef tank as they dont pick on polyps as much. I must have had over 300 anemones in my tank all around my sps and clams after I came back from vacation. I had one before I left.

I put this guy in my tank on a tuesday. By the end of the week I had 2 aiptasia left. He is fat as hell now. He sits in the corner where my bed is an stares at me. He eats Haikari Marine pellets and mysis too so I am not worried about him starving. I am glad I only bought 1 instead of 2 from Michael.

So if you are having Aiptasia probs, call Mike up and get one of these monster killers and be happy. Mine is not for rent :) and he looks good too.

Thanks Mike,

Kasei

Here you go Dean ! Light weren't on yet so this will have to do. He actually has blue lines across his nose and some of his face.

If you ever need some we can pick them out.

Great info on the butterfly.

Hey J,

It is eating well already but I might just want to keep him interested in the aiptasia though. Hopefully nothing else springs up in the main tank.

Inline6,

He eats well as I feed the whole tank everyday. He eats what they eat. I feed 2 times a day right now and the skimmer keeps nitrates at 0. No detectable phos either. I have watched him closely and haven't seen any eveidence of it picking at anything other than the rocks and eating pellets.

Threadfin Butterfly and Aiptasia

I am going to order one today from Mike over at NYaquatic.com - he has been great in the past with other orders and delivery in NYC area (tri-state - I am in NJ) is fast and cheap!!! Gaureenteed live arrival - great selection (not huge, but big enough and QUALITY with some rare livestock at great prices) - so based on your recommendation I will try the Threadfin - but I am nervous with all of the SPS I have in the tank and millions of tubeworms (don't mind if I lose a few of those) But I have literally hundreds of Aiptasia some the size of silver dollar coins (the old large ones) - some are nice flouresent green!! LOL but they need to go!!

hey Kasei any updates on the butterfly?

I'm going to be getting one soon. I have aptaisa that's getting pretty large now. I tried injecting them with vinegar and the alk part from bionic. they close up look like they are dead, then come back the next day and laugh at me.
