Ive moved out of manhattan(29th and 3rd) into New Jersey(Fair lawn) and need some help moving my 120g tank out of my 1st floor apartment(the stairs coming out of my apartment going down are the tough part). I need some buckets for the live rock(or if someone knows where I can go buy some buckets that would be helpful!). Ill end up renting a van to make the move itself. Id like to do all of this on September 8th.

Ill supply all the beer and pizza we can all handle and of course can drive everyone home afterwards.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

I am not available to help.... but I just moved a 120 (it is going to be my sump) and just rolled it out of Jacksons apartment on a hand truck. It took all of two guys, and that was only to manuver it onto the hand truck and into the back of my truck. The couple of steps I had to navigate where not much of a problem.

(Caveat...I did manage to damage the tank while manuvering it when I got it to my house but it was not the hand trucks fault)

Thanks Mike I will definately take you up on your offer!

Matt ive never used a hand truck for moving a tank before but it sounds like that would be easier. I remember moving my 120 originally and it was pretty damn heavy!

I would place something soft between the hand truck and the tank just for some safety, but i would have no qualms about moving 120 that way. I considered an appliance dolly (think big hand truck) for my 220 but decided against it, and am gald i didn't. I wouldn't use the hand truck for anything much larger than a 4 foot 120.

If you don't like that idea look at my tank thread to see how Cali Reef got my 220 down a tight set of stairs.

Although it was SO MUCH FUN moving the original 120 into that apartment, I will unfortunately (?) be diving with Dave in Palm Beach, giving me no choice but to miss the moveout. Goodluck!

Pierce used them to move his 300gal tank and one came off and the tank fell and broke.

We should have about 4 - 6 people which is plenty to move the tank down the steps, even with the turn and tight fit.

Those are not the same that Peirce used, Peirce used commercial quality ones with built in pumps. We just moved Peirces 300g tank with commercial quality ones and moved my 220 with them as well. They work very well, but you need to make sure the glass is clean. The one that came off of peirce's tank, (I wasn't there for that move) slipped as it was put on the tank without cleaning the glass first.
