lets say i have a 1" bulkhead with a 3/4" reducer hose connector in it how much water pre hour can drain? and what size return pump shouuld i get? now i have a mag 7 but i want to put a mag 9 on it but it seems to be to strong it not draining fast enough! what do i need to do to get my mag 9 up and running????:letitallo

a 1" drain will handle 600gph....so even with a 900gph pump with a few feet head loss will still be around 600-700gph....i would reduce the pump size....u seem to have too much flow going through the sump also.

like master swimmer said....your tank can overflow....keep the 1" piping and add a valve to adjust the drain

Use the one inch drain and put a ball valve on the output side of the mag 9 and slow down the output on the pump to match the amount of water going into your sump....

IMO I would put a T in above the Mag 9 and run flow back into the sump. Sort of a closed loop. If you have a refugium, you could use this to feed it or anything else for that matter. For instance, my Mag 9 feeds my skimmer as well as two returns. a ball valve on the pump only makes the pump work harder and it will do a fine job of heating your water!

I would also keep your drains at 1" and use a Durso pipe, it will allow you to dial in your drains to max efficiency.
