Did anyone go to that overpriced "sale" they had this weekend? I stopped over b4 heading to GA. Wow what a markup they had. MH bulbs DE $140!!! And that was after the sale price. Show size Hippo $300! The list goes on and on!

Welcome to the Retailers world of shopping. There will be people who will pay that price.

Hippos are expensive even at cost more so than you would think. Thank pixar for that one. I am in no way supporting or justifying their prices (that's a lot for a DE bulb) but stores have employees and rent and utilities (lots of utilities) and insurance among other expenses. SO when you see a frag for more than $10 or a fish for more than $30 understand that the amount isn't entirely profit and while we may be hobbyists and love what we do, the fact of the matter is that we have the same rights you do to feed and clothe ourselves and pay our rent or mortgage. You work for money and we work for money. Some stores may take advantage and gouge while others are more reasonable but the fact remains that we all have expenses and needs and wants that need to be fulfilled.

Great post lfsmarineguy. I totally agree with you, It cost money to run a store and now with all the online shops its even harder for our local stores to make money.

just different stores caters different customer .... and most of the high end stores dont care about a smart consumer considering them "cheap' ..HoF is very high end and regular customer just hurt their bbusiness...

Diminishing returns.

Obviously Rob knows what he's doing since he's been around for a very long time in LFS years. Plus he always carries top of the line product and has great staff to back him up, BUT Rob was the first guy I went to and when I figured out how much his mark up was I stopped going. Since that time, about spring of 2002, I can safely say I have unloaded $25,000 plus on this hobby. I don't begrudge anyone a living, but when I feel you're taking me to the cleaners its over and most of the prices at HoF are double or triple those of online retailers even after including shipping.

Anyways, just venting a little. Truth is I really do like HoF and Rob; I just wish he was a little more reasonably priced.
