I have so much coraline on some of my rocks that the rock is basiclly encrusted in it. Actually looks pretty thick in some places? Is that bad? meaning can you have too much? Will it effect coral growth?

Just seems that since i got my fuge running, New MH lights and increased my water volume everything is doing really well along with the coraline. Just want to make sure that having too much is not bad, not sure if there is a way to control it.

On another note, what is a good time schedule for lights?

175 Bow with 3 250MH 14k and 4 vho 4' actinics (2 white, 2 blue)

Thanks
Anthony

Yeah it's good until your tank is well established and you have to scrape it off every 2 days like regular algae, then it's a pain....

I have had coraline on the back now for a while. Spots are growing larger and larger. Now they are appearing on the front.

You guys use magnet cleaners? I bought one at Petland Discounts, but is is a POS. Need to get a better one.

Try the magnavore magnets, they r more efficient at removing coraline from the glass and watch your alk and magnesium, coraline tends to use these elements up the most

it's annoying when it grows on the class, especially when it grows right next to the silicone seam, hard to scrape it off w/out screwing up the silicone...

I'm just cycling my tank right now, so it's hard for me to figure out what you are talking about when you say coralline algae, and when you say they're encrusting all your rock.

Can someone post photos? Just to make it more visual?

Thanks.

From what I understand, coralline can be bad in that it closes off all the 'pores' in your live rock and reduces its 'filtering' capabilities.

Coraline needs light to grow so unless you have light shining under and between all your rocks, you really wouldn't have a problem.
And unless you have a giant boulder, there should be a lot of nooks and cranny's where there isn't much light
