Hey guys,
recently I inherited an aquapod 24 w/ an current sunpod 150w MH light. I was told that the light fixture was fairly new, so I didnt rush in replacing its bulb. I ordered a pheonix 150w 14000k bulb and this morning made the switch. The difference was incredible. This light was far more blue than the stock 14000k bulb that came with the light. (I am assuming it was a current blub, all that was written on the bulb was "14000k")

I also noticed that the new bulb was not as bright as the older bulb. Do Halide bulbs change their color spectrums like pc's do over time? would that affect the brightness of the bulb as well?

The bulb will become a bit more blue as it burns in and ages.

As the spectrum changes you will notice a higher intensity as it burns in and then will dim as the bulb begins to die, but we recommend replacing the bulb before that happens. You should have a good year!

Well after a few hours I thoroughly inspected the tank and I feel that altho it is not as bright as current's bulb, this pheonix gives off a brilliant blue that is softer, making my tank easier to look at than the previous bulb. I also am noticing that it really does give the feeling of an actinic accent, because some of my zoo's are glowing like they would in the blue moonlights.

Steve, I highly recommend considering the pheonix 14k bulbs for your pendant. It gives a really nice hint of blue that I was missing before.

pheonix bulbs are not as "intense" on the eyes but the PAR rating is pretty stable through out the life of the bulb which makes for stable lighting. i run the 250w DE 14k with no actinics and have a nice balance of growth and color.
