Was just looking at the Tunze Wave Box, looks like a cool device. Any opinions out there on likes or dislikes. One thing I did notice is it eats up a lot of real estate in the tank.

thanks, James

I get the Tunze wave box for $540...And was thinking about that also... Ming has a sick wave going on with 2 vortechs... I was wondering if one would work if pulsed just right on a aga180gal???

I have been using a wavebox for about a year now.

Positives
1) It moves all the water in the tank which is not easy to accomplish.
2) The wave is quite cool and pretty impossible to recreate IMO.
3) It seems to stimulate soft coral growth.

Negatives
1) Expensive
2) Takes up a decent chunk of real estate if you don't have a long tank.
3) Maintenance is a bit of a pain since you need to take the box out or leave a lot of room around the base to remove the cover and then the pump.
4) The waves can be noisy.

I have one for three years now, LOVE IT! It will only work of a 4 foot or longer tank.

Here is a video of a test I was running in a 300 gallon tank, water was coming out of the tank at peak wave.

A regular tunze on a Neptune controller can get you bigger waves without the box.

Wow you just a question I had...So it will get good waves on a aga180 6ft tank... Thanks Calireef Or should I get a regular tunze I have a rk2 will this work???

I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it for 120 aga tank with two overflows buillt in. The tank is only 4 feet and the back has two overflows. It would seem that the tank might look over crowded and not benefit as much from a wavebox. Opinions welcomed... I would really hate to buy this pricey item to have buyer remorse later.

thanks, James

I personally would not recommend putting a wave box on a 4ft tank. I've done some research in the pass and a wave box on a 4ft tank in time can weaken the seams on a glass tank. i would feel safe only on a 6ft or bigger

Wow wish I had known this before I got the rk2... Thanks c3po for the shoot down...lol :kidding:NaCl-H20... Saltwater.....
Correct me but isn't it just a plugin and set it to turn off and on???

Unfortunately it is not just a plugin, it is an entire Control Module for the Tunzes. Tunzes require a "driver" in order to function. When interfaced with AC Jr or ACIII you need to supply a driver, hence, the aquasurf.
