This is a sad story it sounds like your friend isnt ready to listen. I blame him and the store both. Not all stores are bad I find most stores to actually be good and well ran. When buying we as consumers have to do our homework first then go to the store and take all advise with a grain of salt. Having said that I realize I'm 47 and your friend is twenty something he will learn. I do commend you for be honest and trying all you can to help the fish and corals. The first thing I do when I run into someone who is just starting up a tank or changing their tank is to recommend this site along with the reef tank. Whats that old saying "you can led a horse to water but you cant make him drink"

unfortunately its true that these type of people will feed the LFS's.....some pople just dont want to listen and think they know what they're doing when they dont even learn about marine life.........i dont feel that they care too much about thier livestock....

I know every store has them but there are a few customers that would make you want to resort to violence. They are so unwilling when it comes to even the smallest amount of info when it comes to what they should and should not have in their tanks. One guy has a tank smaller than a 65 (I am being vague on purpose even though I know he isnt on here) with 3 baby tangs of some of the larger species (3-5 inches each) with other fish in the tank and he refuses to believe me when I say he is overstocked. There are some people who will always know more than you will I guess. I fight the urge to facilitate Darwinism and get in stone fish or blue ring octopi.

I honestly tried to stay away from this one. May my Best friend's soul rest in peace. Lee drove me crazy for many years with the exact same issues. Lee would buy what she wanted, when she wanted. It didn't matter how much the fish cost, if she liked it home it went with her. By the way, her favorite spot was good old "fish town USA".lol
I tried my best for many years to no avail. She was stubborn, and although she knew that some of the folks at ft just wanted to sell her stuff, she didn't care. Yes, I felt for every fish, and coral that died in her tank. But you know what? Now she is gone, and I wish she was here with me.
Please take care of your friendship the most!! In time I pray your friend will come to his senses, and either do the right thing, or go onto a hobby that really grabs his interest enough to make him want to learn all that he can about it. LFS are all around us, but a good friend is hard to find. Guess I'm being overly sentimental, but a year has gone by, and I have yet to find a friend like her. Take it from an old bird, "you really don't know what you have until you loose it".

I totally agree with you!! Some would even make you want to punch them in the nose.

been there down that with a guy that came into my lfs, another store sold him sps and other stuff knowing he couldnt keep it, they sold him his whole set-up. spent 2hr's going over stuff with him as well as the owner of the store we were at. seen him two weeks later was in asking questions { bought more stuff from other store } told him too deposit $200 in my pocket id go to his house and look at his tank and save him $400 lol people dont listen they believe a fish store { nothing personal to stores on here } over people who have succesful reefs

yeah I know what you mean this won't ruin a friendship no way never happen we kid around I call him my boyfriend lolol and that i'm gonna marry him one day totally robbing the cradle lolol this will not come between us it would be stupid if it did i just like to help its what I do it just hurts my heart to see that the things he buys eventually end up gone he had a big oyster like thing I heard that it died today see just sad

Yeah he is just wrong on his part live and learn I was trying to get info on the clam he got I saw it on teh rocks in his tank it's kinda big like a fist a guy fist lolol I really want to know where he got it and how much it was it's lost money and lost life poor little creatures

update friend im's me last night asking why his clam won't open I told him to check his calcium and that they like to be on the sand I didn't get into how his lighting is not strong enough.

Ok I will tell him that I thought they all did and since he has no idea on anything in his tank it was a shot to tell him that. I do not have a clam not enough light for 1 in my tank. Just sick that he buys before reading then asks me what to do when things go wrong. Thats all It's all annoying to me.
Have you explained to him how frustrating it is for you that he does this? I would tell him in a nice way, but forcefully. Does he even know what clam he has? Probably not.
