Brooklyn would definitely be a great place to consider. The Park Slope area especially. On another note although I personally drive somedays I would just like to use public transportation other than a bus. Most of the available shops regardless of borough or location tend to always be a distance from subway stations. At the current gas rate if I parked my car two weekends out of the month and took the train I would be able to support local vendors that much more. There has to be tons of hobbyist who'd agree.

Are you kidding me??????86&5th is World of Pets.Listen to me don't go there!!!Poor fish.I wish I could save the poor fish and stick the owner in those tanks.

86&8th is ok if you have freshwater.Saltwater section needs help.
86&17th is probably the better of the 3 but could use improvement. It's hit or miss.

There are a few more worthy of mention and others I would put in the same category as World Of Pets but seriously Bklyn needs a good store.

There are couple of stores around you.

86st and 5th ave
86st and 18th ave
65st and 8th ave

This thread is out of date but still useful.

Thanks for the input I'm meeting my partners Sat Nite to talk some on this project.

That Fulton Street area was a real surprise, wow!!

Wonder what the rent is on about 4,000'

If we're going to sell at fair prices we need good traffic and a reasonable rent.

Keep the ideas flowing.

I suggest Howard Beach, Queens. There are a few stores for rent on Crossbay blvd. Our local store closed down many years ago. The guys around here are not cheap will spend the money. The rents are another story though. But if you carry quality fish and supplies. You guys will do great. Thats my dream once I retire to open my own aquarium. Good Luck were ever you decide to open your store. Joe

I'm going to be selfish and demand (yes, I said demand!) Forest Hills or Rego Park. There are vacancies all around. Yeah, I know Austin st. is too expensive...if you open up there, only the expense account people will be able to buy anything...but Woodhaven Blvd in Rego park is almost entirely vacant! Between 63rd Dr and the next 2-3 blocks heading towards the Queens Center the street is loaded with vacant stores...some of them have been vacant for 2 years or more. We used to have a big reef/aquarium store on Woodhaven, ...Aquatic Treasures(?...I'm awful with names...especially LFS because they all have variations on the same name....) was great, and got a lot of reef business, until the blackout destroyed them. But, damn, we need a reef store! we have nothing but one of the most poorly run Petlands....and, given the wide range of talent shown at a typical Petland...that says a lot........Remember, I said I demand a store!

Theres actually one on Queens Blvd already, near Broadway/Grand ave.
But Forest Hills/ Rego Park is a great idea. I'll probably pop by everyday, not necessarily to buy anything. If you can also sell high end dog and cat foods in the same store you could probably make a killing.

BAYSIDE QUEENS! Bell blvd location, good walking traffic, decent parking, overall upper middle class area where there is some money to buy. Its close to FISHTOWN (2 or so miles away), they would go to you just to spite fishtown, especially if your even close in product!

To hell with fishtown.Wouldn't give them a dime.

I agree 100000000%, however they still do great business because they have a lock on the saltwater trade in the northeast, central Queens area, Thats the beauty or a place a cpl miles away with comprable prices and selections, and actually GREETING A CUSTOME W/ A SMILE, go figure.

Thats why bayside would word

If I was looking for a prospective store front, the last thing I would want to hear is about stores that have been vacant for two years.

If you're depending on a lot of traffic, you need to find a spot where parking is accessible, even metered parking and reasonably close to a subway.
