Egg crate is a personal preference. People should do whatever they prefer to do.

Well said, its like any other preference. You do what you want and others may have opinions but you do what you feel is right.

Brooklyn is right as well, we should stop caring about what is in our tanks at home and be more concerned about the real ocean... you know.. the place where we get the things we need to have our own personal reefs...

Hmmm, where is that article about them dumping NYC subway cars into the ocean to help build reefs...

I admire your passion ZZ but I doubt you're going to change any minds.
How about black eggcrate ? lol :spin:

If you are going to bash eggcrates...how about returns, PHs, or anything else that isnt "natural", as you put it.
I agree they are an eye sore, but they do serve a purpose.
It is also mostly about personal opinion/taste.
MAINLY----You are talking about making tanks more beautiful( Your opinion of beautifull), maybe the people with eggcrate like eggcrate in their tanks...in their opinion that is beautiful....(of course, you know what they say about opinions.......they are like a**holes...everyone has one and they all stink)

ok subway cars Kathy are just 1 thing we actually put in our oceans that benifit it how bout those OIL spills im sure the fish love that lol i think we try to hard to put good stuff in our water and whats happening is bad stuff gets in there too

i feel this whole egg crate thing is like what your saying kathy the subway cars just in a smaller picture they help and dont harm but other mitirials in reefs or homeaquariums that do harm should justs be left out to dry and die

Eggcrate everyone, including myself, has that in their tank.

I'm sure most of the guys up there have a reefplug or two ;).

Creating a reef in the ocean would mean having a random coral in a tank which is the natural look.

I personally use acrylic rods, To each his own, everyone has their own taste.

I don't know if that made sense but hell at least i responded :).

:funnypost Kris that made no sense, always starting trouble :knockedou

I also use acrylic rods, I drilled my rocks and made pillars. I don't even like using egg crate in my frag tank, blech, but it is convenient and serves a utilitarian purpose. it is also good to place in your sump for a surface for sponges to grow in a dark cryptic zone. so I guess the only time I use egg crate is when you don't see it :squid:

Let me put some fuel oil into this thread instead of the ocean.

I love eggcrates

when they are not seen in the DT.

MOST of my tanks have eggcrates in them but you cannot see them, I use them for something more controversial-UGF or reverse UGF or to build a plenum space:irked:

Listen Egg Crate in the sump or when it isn't visible is fine. Of coarse all of this is subjective and I am by no means expecting to change minds. BUT I think my point of no visible egg crate is completely illustrated by the tanks I mentioned earlier
JHale's tank
Jason @ Greenwich Aquaria
Joe Peck www.bluefrags.com
Kedd
Those are some great examples of a beautiful tank and no visible egg crate. I could also really ruffle feathers and say stop using cheesy small pieces of rock BUT I won’t and keep that for another thread.
PS I do appreciate everybody’s point of view and really do enjoy the conversation! BUT won’t be hiring the "egg craters" to aquascape my tank!

I have an egg crate Frag rack in my tank glued to a mag float. It stays in the back semi out of site for the most part until it is needed then it comes out.
