i recently posted a tank for sale. Im sure many people saw it http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/sale-trade/38156-90-gal-rr-oak-tank-stand-hood.html
I was given it by deelucky before he moved to Florida and was unable to upgrade to it. I decided to sell it for ONLY $75 which was what gas tolls and cleanup cost me. and now the person that i sold it to turns around and sells it for $300.http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/for/613229971.html SHAME ON YOU. I was trying to do something nice for someone in the MR community that could not afford a LG setup, not gain profit from it. I will not name names but you know who you are. S%$# like this is not cool. thanks for bringing it to my attention. Back to my tank upgrade ill have lots of pics later. Just shows what happens when you try to do something nice.

Guys, if he bought it, it is his to do with as he pleases.
He didn't come to you on his hands and knees, give you sob story, and beg for it as charity.
He bought it for what you offered it.
Once it's his, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it.

I couldn't care less one way or the other, but it's just my $0.02.

My Gallery | My Tank

Hi
If it is still available I will pick it up anytime. Michael 7942981

I say post the name, but have this thread closed after because we don't need any comments or this thread will be deleted. Posting the name of who bought it and resold it has no slander and only telling the truth in what happened so no reason to have the thread deleted. But the thread must be closed afterwards or else I'm sure it will get out of hand and must be deleted.

Just playing Devil's advocate,

I don't know what his/her motivations was, but you never know. Perhaps that person really needs the money were as you are in a better position and able to afford passing this on for close to nothing.

I understand were you are coming from and how you might feel burned. Best policy do nice things for others, and never expect anything in return. Take satisfaction that your doing something nice for someone.

And no, I didn't buy the tank, and I don't know who it is.

Just something to consider. Word!

Yeah but as someone that isn't here to make money, stuff like this angers me a bit.

I usually don't charge people for livestock, I charge what I paid or less for corals when I sell them , regardless of how much bigger they've gotten since then. Instead of trying to profiteer off my fellow hobbyists, I try and "hook them up". With most folks that means they extend the same courtesy back to me when I want something they have. In that way we effectually lower the prices of the things we need. Phil just gave me a tank and stand for free!

Kacei and Pierce are always giving me stuff for free and I to them. The "pay it forward" helps the hobby a lot more than when hobbyists try and make a buck to recoup the money that they've spent.

Yes it's his tank to do with what he pleases, Phil's free stand, I broke it. It's mine. FU. I'll do what I want with it. If I were to sell the tank and stand that would be messed up. I've hooked Phil up and he in turn hooked me up. In my mind to sell something he gave me for free would be the same as stealing that amount of money from him.

Maybe my moral compass is F'd up, who knows.

I agree w/ michael stern...that person who bought it for $75, then sold it for $300 did nothing wrong...yes, its alittle scummy...but it was his/hers to do as they please...

People do that for a living...its called arbitrage(I might have spelled that wrong)..it happens all the time...as a commodities trader...ive done some arbitrage myself.

This is the real world...ppl are out for themselvs(generally speaking, I too am a nice guy)...now you know, never help that person out, unless you can gain from it(as he/she did)

Life is to short to get mad over something like this...whats done is done...this person is not the only A**hole in the world...they are everywhere...dont let them get to you.

I don't know.
ssmtcarlo made some money for his time (Unless he picked it up in FL).
this thread just smells like a lynch mob to me.
He wasn't "given" the tank as a favor. He bought it for asking price.
What's the big deal.
And he didn't even sell it here, he went outside the community.

IMO, people need to lighten up. If ssmtcarlo feels he did him a favor, then don't do anymore for him. Trying to play detective to sniff out who did it is again lynch mob mentality.

This is a pretty weak reason.

Yes he did buy it and he can do with it what he wants but to turn around and sell it for a higher profit, and on another board so nobody here can see it, well that is pretty weak.

Remember this was one hobbyist selling to another hobbyist, not someone selling to a business where the business buying was looking to make a profit.

I just wanted to chime in here... as a new member to the MR community I think this thread is "not cool" either. The vibe I get from this site is a very positive one for the most part and this thread I don't think belongs here.

Take it to the person you sold it to privately if you have a problem with their actions. You know who they are. IMO this thread is no better. You feel you were wronged for being the bigger person, but by posting this you have not been the bigger person.

That is like when you can no longer take care of an animal and have to find a new home for it... and then the people turn around and sell it--- you gave up any right to have any say in the matter as soon as you relinguished ownership to another party. It was of no use to you, you sold it (for the price you thought was fair) and someone paid that price.

What they do with it after the fact is their business unless you otherwise stated they were not to sell it for more after the fact. And even still how on Earth would you expect to know if you didn't happen stumble across it on CL?

I wonder the response had he listed the combo on eBay for $75.00 and the highest bidder bought it for $1,000. Many of the lynch mob would be applauding his efforts then :lol2:
