How much satisfaction do you still get.....?

I agree with Russ, I have left the RO/DI unit on several times. Not much enjoyment in the clean up process.
The enjoyment of sitting at the tank drinking a cold beer and watching a mini eco system is worth it. It is a hobby, and hobbies (expecially this one) unfortunately cost a sh*t load of money.

after reading Seans post all I could think of was "First, you cut a hole in the box, then you put your fish in the booox..." lol (like the SNL skit if that was too obscure). I think as a business it's a little different. The ups and downs as a hobbyist in the business are a little more severe. There are the "why did I think this was a good idea" moments and then there are the "I can't believe I get payed to play all day." moments. All in all I am happier more than not especially when you get the compliments about the tanks and gratitude for helping others through their learning process. I get to see so much cool stuff on a regular basis that there aren't many things I'd rather be doing.
