Manufacturers say that if the membrane isn't used for more than a week it should be removed and placed in a preservative solution. Remember that everything downstream of the carbon is unchlorinated and prone to biological growth (bioslime, algae).

I installed mine directly into cold water kitchen supply and get 65-70psi without flow restrictor and when I first got it, if I ever let it stand for more than 10 days the membrane would need to be replaced so I learned the hard way that I have to continously use it...
A few days later I made the rodi system feed into a holding tub with a float valve and connected my ato to it and Voila! I leave mine on all the time and the ato makes it so that the rodi is used every day.

Not likely. Remember you are flushing it with nonchlorinated water.

If the biogrowth is in your membrane, the membrane is toast. They can be cleaned out, but it really isn't practical for these small residential membranes.

DI resin is also notorious for developing biological growth.
