Just woke up because I heard a ringing and my room smelled like smoke. Looked over and my deltec was flooding and going into my power plugs. Saw smoke coming out. Anyone have problems with their deltec? I for one am pissed and just thankful this happened while I was home.

Mine flooded all the time until it broke :-(

If the skimmer starts bubbling too much, all the foam squirts out the top. Eventually it runs over the sides and turns back to water when it hits the floor.

It will also flood if the media chamber has too much stuff in it. The mesh bags that carbon comes in can get around the barrier and block the outflow.

Where did you see smoke coming out of? The skimmer or the outlet? If it is the outlet I would get that checked out. Saltwater and electric don`t mix......

It's my coralite power strip that had smoke coming up. Thinking if I woke up 15 minutes later it might have gone on fire. Imagine if I wasnt' home what would have happened. Can't risk this again. Anyone have a recommendation on a skimmer for a 50 gallon breeder tank with no sump?

I'll trade you a bakpack for the deltec!

My mc500 (the in-sump version of yours) floods once in a while. I just drilled the collection cup and added an overflow hose. If the collection cup on the mce 600 is the same as mine, I can understand why it's trouble. I talked to the deltec guy at MACNA and told him my concerns. He just nodded his head. So I'm not the first person who talked to him.

My question is:

WHY WERE YOUR PLUGS WHERE THEY COULD GET WET? Drip loops, my friend, drip loops. Replace that power strip, or get a can of contact cleaner. Someone here (a while ago) lost their whole tank when a powerstrip got wet. It almost burned down their house!

Sure. I will trade. ><

The power strip was in the stand and was planning on attaching it to the side. Problem was the it flooded and it looks as though the water dripped on the wires slowly. What's a drip loop? I chucked my power strip. Gonna run to home depot after work and pick up a new one. Problem is I have carpet and I tried to get as much as I can dried this morning before I left. I did see a mod a while back on the mce600 where someone drilled a hole and put tubing so the junk would go into a bucket.

A drip loop is that IMPORTANT thing every fish related electronic product's instructions stresses oh so much. The electrical cord should dip down below the hight of the electrical outlet and make contact with the floor ideally, or at least form a deap U below the outlet. This prevents any water from dripping down the electircal chord and into the outlet by having the water spill onto the floor or collect at the base of the U and then drip to the floor beforeit can make its way into the outlet.
