Aiptasia Anemones

OK,,,i find myself sometimes looking in my tank at wee hrs at nite with a small light on ,i notices last nite 2 anemones(aiptasia) a nice size ,i find myslef then with JOES JUICE protecting my corals from being stung ,is this ever going to stop ? will i get a break they muiltiply so fast and hard to see at times . is there a way to rid them of you tank once and for all ,can everyone help out with some your thoughts ,thx

I kalked them today and it worked out pretty good the kalk stuck to the rock and from what i can see its gone. I'll post back tmrw to see if their gone for sure.

hey kris glad that it work ,but the prob is ,it seems once they get into your system you can get them out ,they show up somewhere else in the tank ,they muiltiply quickly ,,is ther a way to get them out completly or are we just stuck injecting them with kalk or joes juice eveytime we see one?

I tried everything, Joes Juice(Works but you will never knock them all out), Berghia's(Saw them eat a few then never to hear from again), Peppermint shrimp(Never had luck with them eating aiptasia). FINALLY I bought a copperband butterfly and within 2 weeks I have never seen an aiptasia since.

It is HIt or MIss (had to do that) with which one works - I bought 3 Peppermint shrimp, didn't feed the tank for 4 days and they went to town on mine - that was over 2 years ago and I have never seen one since. CBB's, though, also work well from what I have heard.

Bottom line you've got to start one option at a time until you remedy the suckers

You should also try peppermints from different stores, some of them are not "true" peppermints. And as House said, you need to cut off the tank feeding for a few days to make them eat the anemones.

I think not feeding the tank would be important cause if they had food coming to them easy by you feeding the tank...why would they bother eating the aptasia when they have all that food flying into the tank. Hmmm....if this kalk doesnt work out and I see them later on, I'll try the shrimp again.

Is the copperband Reef safe ,if i rememeber with caution but not for me ,,will the peppermint shrimp and my other shrimp get along or all out fight fest, i have blood red and cleaner shrimp they are about 3 inchs long and really dont want to loss them( i post a pic of them so you can see my cleaning crew ,lol)

my cleaners and peppermints always got along, so, I don't think they will fight - not sure about the blood shrimp.

I had luck with peppermints - they took care of all the aiptasia within days of going into the tank. The little scare I had of them eating my Pagoda Cup seemed to just as someone suggested that there was a dying part of the coral and they went for it. They haven't touched anything healthy in the tank. (Though they do steal the food from the open brain...ticks me off!)

i do have one peppermint shrimp in my refuge .but thats it ,no aiptasias there !!

i have peppermints one cleaner and one blood red, they all get along.each of them has their own territory in the tank and they stick to it.lately the peppermint only comes out at night i dunno why.

thats cool,,but that the prob ,territory!! I Have 4 blood and 4 cleaners ,all of them are a big big size .as you see in the pic above ,,,one more thing ,will the copperband
eat my shrimp?
