lost a copuple of fish today

I woke up to day and found that my CBB and powder blue were dead! I had them a little over 6 weeks rest of the fish are fine water parameters are OK
SG 1.025
PH 8.1
alk 8.5DKH
cal 488PPM
nitrate .4PPM
no copper
no amonia
no nitrites
phosphate is undetectable

they were both very healthy and hardy eaters I noticed yesterday they werent darting around the tank as usuual but alive none the less and not breathing heavy

Could be because of lack of oxygen in the water. Do you have good water movement and breakage to release CO2 from the water.

Sounds like an O2 problem. Were they staying near the top of the tank?

none of the other fish show signs of stress both fish were at the bottom the whole time. tank has lots of circulation large ASM G4 skimmer

I have a large fan blowing over the open sump water temp is 80 degrees

I had a few fish die overnight a few years back, the only difference that I noticed was a paint chip inside the tank.

BUT I also think it was an O2 problem. It's possible you had a small power outage overnight.

nope I have a generator I live in the MTns power goes out a lot during storms
I did do a large water change 50 gals today got both fish out. niether ate yestareday either very un like them

Weird - I lost one too overnight and was eating fine doing well. Anything predatory in there? Coral Banded? Sometimes they attack at night when the fish is in a hole hiding and can't get out.

if it was just the fish dying I would have said it may have been sick when you got it,
but the shrimp dying at the same time makes that less likely.

no shrimp in tank lost a powder blue tang and a copper band butterfly.
niether showed any signs of stress or injury swam and ate like pigs.
to my knowledge nothing preditory.
my concern is I'm buying that Asfur angel from oceanrelm this weekend
I dont usually QT my fish but my 65 gal tank is still running I guess I'll put it in there for a while till I figure out whats goiing on

yes since I set it up. been running one for years learned my lesson when I stuck my hand in tank not knowing a glass heater broke

I also added a power head to my fuge today

Did you get the PBT and the CBB from the same fish store? (ie fishtown) Did they show signs of stress few days a go? Hiding a lot, breathing hard, scratching them selfs on the rocks? Any other fish or invert left in the tank?

I don't there are many predators that can catch a PBT in a small home tank. CBB is another story..

didnt come from fishtown, yes they came from same store. they showed no signs of stress they were very healthy never hid until yesterday. they were always swimming exploring picking at rocks. they were both hardy eaters. I really thought the CBB would be around for a while. he wasnt even frightened of my hand in the water. he would come right up and look at my hand curioisly
both fish were eating so well they were getting fat!

your PH is pretty low especially for a powder blue tang they come from the red sea which has a very high PH, temp and salinity, not sure if thats what contributed to the death, but you should at least raise your PH to about 8.4-8.5
PH in the red sea... if I remember correctly.. is about 8.6, temp is about 88 and the salinity is 1.028.
when fish are subjected to parameters thats lower than they are used too, like powder blue's it will cause kidney failure.

just checked SG and it's 1.027 temp is 79
ph with lights off is 8.1

Your pH swings from 8.6 to 8.1??? That is a HUGE swing from day to night. that itself may have done it. (keep in mind that the pH scale is logarithmic).
