that's good about the dust collection.
I like to stand too, what kind of wood is that?

re: the subway. it is sad what we have to deal with now.
I remember pre 9/11 saying all the time how safe I felt on the subways.
since that day I've never gotten on the subway and not thought about
the possibility. I ride them every day, maybe it was a blessing in disguise ( a big disguise though) that your wife is no longer working on the trains.

I love working with cherry.
It's one of my favorites, that and walnut.
the beauty of cherry is it sands and finishes real well!
I'm a drummer also and I just made a snare drum out of a steam bent walnut shell. I did a hand rubbed tung oil finish and it took alomost 20 coats to build to a glass like finish.
walnut is a beautiful wood!
I saw some of your work on your site I'm very impressed. by any chance was your work showcased in a shop across from the 1st Pct

thanks for the compliment. :)
I've not shown my work yet, so no that was not mine.

bending walnut, that's cool. I'd love to use the same concept and make a round end table. if you look in the high end home magazines they are showing a lot of dark woods that are bent into curves for things like beds and credenzas, they are getting a fortune for those pieces. forget acrylic you should make furniture :)

I have some tools you would like, from festool, have you seen them?
all their hand tools hook up to a vacuum and there is almost zero dust.
you could sand in your living room and not see a piece of dust anywhere.
I'm a bit obsessive about dust and have hooked up every machine to be as dust free as possible. the only one that is not is the miter saw, that's a tough one. maybe we should have a separate section for projects that are non-reef related. I'd like to see some of the furniture other mr people have made.
