I finally had a chance to take a trip to Atlantis Marine World out in Riverhead, NY. Let me tell you, it was worth the hour drive from Queens. I only wish i had more time to spend looking at the reef tank. I've seen alot of reef tanks from fellow reefers to public aquariums, and i've gotta say, this is hands down the best ever. Even tho i didn't see any Scolymias in there! :)

The curator and founder is a fellow RC member, i definitely have to get him to give me a behind the scenes tour! Perhaps a Manhattan Reef group trip???

Let me stop talking and let the pics say everything............ Enjoy, 24 pictures!!

The tank is a monster of 20 000 gallons. Are those tanks of seahorse and octopus still there? I remember the octopus is outrageous.

Hey guys, just got a message from Joe, the curator/cofounder.

"Steven,
How many in your club? We can certainly arrange a reduced fee for the club and a free extended behind the scenes tour.
If you have guest speakers, maybe we could arrange a lecture as well on how the tank was built, etc.
Joe"

Hmm, sounds like a good idea, who's in? :)

Perhaps Jim (houseofha), could be our guest speaker? :) LOL

I'm in. I think the Long Island club did this recently.

We should do it now while the weather is still nice (and we can do the boat trip and shark swim too). I am a member at the aquarium.

How about the Sunday between Labor Day and MACNA?

I think Joe meant he is happy to speak to the "club" if the "club" features lectures. I don't think he is asking Jim or anyone on MR how to build a 20,000 gallon reef tank, he has done that already:).

The reef is pretty cool, I have seen it from the top\behind the scene and it is much bigger than looking at it from the front.
