reef crystals salt who likes it?

I'm thinking of taking advantage of the low price and free shipping from the Dr.s foster and smith.
I've only been using kent salt. for those that use it how do you think reef crystals stacks up?

ah the dreaded S-15 report. interesting that the company which paid for the testing scored the highest.

well, i am gonna use IO, most people have reported greeat things bout them, which is similar to RC, with my soon to be here CA reactor, i dont see any purpose to get RC, RC has less stronium as well, i want a level of stronium where it does not deplete as quickly. stronium is a metal, which too much will cause corals to die toxified, at least from what i have readed, Io has a bit higher of that, which mean during water changes more will be replenished, especially when i am not adding this stuff, the alk and everything seems to be the same, expect the ca level, IO is only 360 tested yesterday.

Why dont I see Oceanic on that report? Ive heard good and bad things about oceanic.. For me it works great.

I used Reef Crystals and IO before. RC has more more calcium then IO but both were fine.

Oceanic is a newer salt, so it may have been after that report (as well as the TM Pro-Reef).

Oceanic has issues with high calcium levels, supossedly. I dont see this so much as a bad thing as it can help replenish the Ca in the tank when doing partial water changes (hence, I used to use it). I guess it would be a problem if doing frequent large water changes to the point that the Ca level in the tank remain elevated.

I use the Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt lately - seems to have only had positive reviews (from what i've seen).

lets say the RC costs $35.00 and TMPR costs $60 + shipping.

Albert, would you justify the 2X cost of the TMPR ?

One 200 gallon bucket lasts about four months, less if I'm setting up QT's
So over that time period is it worth shelling out more money? Do you feel
you see the results?

never used RC.

I use 200gal bucket over a yr, so the $30 more a year wont kill me. if it is a premium salt, i'd rather have the peace of mind.

i also dont do a lot of water changes, so the few i do should at least be with a premium salt.

Being that no one is really to sure on how to answer, my suggestion is always - If it aint broke , dont try to fix it. On the other hand, I have used reef crystals in the past without any problems whatsoever. Any shortcomings on calcium or strontium etc get dosed anyway. But then again, like Albert said 30 bux is not going to kill you over the course of a couple months. Thats 2.5 cocktails in Manhattan.......

I've switched salt back and forth, mostly for what's on sale.

RC made my tank look the best. When I'm done with this bucket of IO (sometime in 2007 at the rate I use it) I'll switch back to RC.

I use TMPR and the additional cost over IO or RC isn't that much as a 200gal could last me anywhere from 8-12 months and as for the additional $20-$30 it's not worth changing as I get good results.

As for my large tank, FO, I use to use just TM but will now use whatever salt I can get on sale, like IO or Oceanic. Years ago TM was the best by far but the differences is salt have been greatly reduce over the year.

I used RC once and was not really happy with the results and have stuck with Instant Ocean ever since. like anything in this hobby i am sure there are a million people out there who get great results with RC, but just not me.

I use RC ,very happy with it ,,,,
but truthfully ,salt is salt ,from what i hear .All the salt is equal ,stick with the one that make your corals happy that the one i use ,RC make my corals happy .so i wont change it ,
ive used IO in the past i really see no diff ,but if you ask me why i use RC,,Its a mind thing.

As far as money ,i spend plenty on this hobby so a few more dollars on RC makes no diff ..as long as I fell good with what i use
